Rambo Digital Copy - Disk not readable with computer.

I just bought Rambo: The Complete Collector's Set today. The bonus DVD for Rambo IV contains a "Digital Copy" for iTunes and Windows Media Player and the code to transfer the movie into iTunes.

When I insert the DVD, I get the following error message "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" I tried the other DVDs in the set and they work. So the issue is either a defective DVD or an incompatible DVD drive.

My first thought was to check to see if the firmware of my DVD drive is up to date (DVD drive is a Sony DRU-830A). I checked Sony's website, and sure enough there's a firmware update for the drive. The firmware on the drive is version SS23. The current version is SS25, but I can't update the firmware since its an .exe file. So I'm back to square one. A defective DVD or incompatible DVD drive.

Just asking if anyone out there has any ideas and/or insight on this problem.

Here's an update to my situation.

I tried to redeem my code at the iTunes Music Store as suggested in some of the replies. However; I get the "item is no longer available" error.

I bought the collector's set which includes all four movies. I'm not really keen on returning an entire set of movies just to obtain a working Digital Copy of one movie.

That being said, I'm still disappointed at buying something with a feature that doesn't work as advertised.

Now I'm wondering who's to blame for this issue. Apple, Lionsgate or both?

I bought a standard Rambo DVD. I haven't done anything to get it to work, I just tried the codes on different days. The first day I noticed the problem the code didn't work, the second day the code worked. I hope it starts working for you guys! It's annoying when you pay good money for something that doesn't work.

Well today I exchanged my copy of Rambo for another one and tried it and very same thing happened. Disk is not readable and the entering the code brings up the unavailable message. This is really frustrating. I sure hope Apple does something about this soon. I can see it not being their fault for the disks being unreadable but not being able to redeem the code through the store seems like it should be in their power to fix.

Just curious....has anybody tried this disk in a Windows computer?

I had the same thing happen to me a few times. What I did was shut down iTunes for a minute, re-opened it, and tried again. When I did that, it took the code right away. Give it a hot. It took a few times, but the code worked eventually. The disk, however, is still unreadable.

Well, here's my second and final update to my situation.

Today Apple announced that iTunes Movies and Movie Rentals are now available in Canada and the UK. After hearing this good news, I tried to redeem my code and it worked! The disk is still unreadable, but at least I've got my Digital Copy of Rambo. 🙂

Anyway, I hope things work out for those of you that are still having difficulties.

I tried a few disks on different Macs...same thing...
It does work for Windows...because I tried that too...
Just go through redeem in iTunes and you should be fine (or put the disk into Windows)...

I have since tried redeeming through the iTunes store since they now have movies in Canada and it has worked. Hopefully everyone's is working now too.

Does not work for me. The code I received in the Blu Ray disc comes back with a "Not a valid Free Song code" message. Am I redeeming in the wrong place?

I had the same problem. The disk is unreadable. I've tried on 2 different computers. I've tried the redeem trick in iTunes but it tells me that I need to have the Digital disk in the computer for it to work. I've put it in the drive and clicked ignore, but it still gives me the same error.

I keep getting the "this disk is unreadable by this computer" message, and when I try to enter the redeem code, it says "you must insert your digital copy disk"???? Tried when I first got the movie when it first came out, had no luck, but was trying with some new movies and they worked just fine??? I am at a total loss here.........

Got my blu-ray copy of Rambo and disc doesn't work as well. Tried entering the code in iTunes redeem section and I get the error code, "You must insert your Digital Copy DVD into your computer in order to redeem this code."

The disc is in even though I got that unreadable error and selected ignore. Any suggestions?
