Keynote: Presentation mode?

A work around is to plug in a VGA monitor connector so that your PowerBook thinks it has a second monitor.

Once your PowerBook thinks there is a second monitor you can set up the Presenter display to be shown on your LCD screen.

I must be doing something wrong. I've plugged my white VGA adaptor into the back of my PB G4, but keynote (2.02) refuses to be fooled into thinking I have a second monitor attached. I would so love to be able to preview my keynote presentations.

Any ideas?

You can turn on mirroring in your display settings. Then you could play the slide show as it would be...you lose a few cool things in presenter but it'll give you an idea. Also, you could export it all to a QT movie and watch it in there.

Oops...last reply would work with a second monitor. But, if you don't have a 2nd monitor you can still see what it looks like by just playing the slideshow. Or - are you trying to PRACTICE in the PRESENTER MODE? If so, you'll need a second MONITOR. Sorry.

I'm using an iBook G4 and Keynote2 to give presentations with a Sharp Notevision projector XR-1S. Thought I have tried every combination of preferences settings on the Presenter Display panel, I cannot get it to show me 2 slides and notes on the IBook. Whatever is shown there is shown on the projector and it refuses to recognize that as a separate display. Is there a solution?

the ibooks don't allows duel displays, there is a hack out on the internet that fixes this but keep in mind, it is a hack.

not to nit pick, but it's Dual. Duel is fight, as in a sword duel to the death. 🙂

I don't think so....unfortunately the screen can't split in half to show you the presenter side and the results....at least i don't think it can....you need a second monitor to do both....

He's not talking about splitting the screen, he's talking about the presenter view. That view requires extended desktop, which the iBook doesn't support without a firmware hack. It shows the current and next slide, plus notes on your laptop screen, while the current slide is up on the projector.

Brian you're right on - you know exactly what I'm trying to do. I've found the patch and posted a note there to get an answer before installing it. I seem to have a supported machine, but I also have a 2 year Apple extended care agreement. I'm concerned that if I use the patch I may invalidate my warranty and the care agreement. But I also very much want to have my presenter view different from that which is being projected. Any thoughts?

Well, seeing as the patch is a small software app, and you can use that same app to turn OFF the patch, I can't see how Apple could tell you you're voiding your warranty (and if you turn it off, they won't know you even did it). Personally, I've never seen any documentation that says messing with Openfirmware voids your warranty. The problem is, none of us wants to be seen as pushing a non Apple approved hack to a machine that's purposely got that feature turned off. Still, I did it to my old iBook, and I know folks who've done it...only one guy ever had a problem, and that was due to his iBook NOT being supported by the hack.

I use Keynote 2.0.2 nearly daily with my high school and college visual arts classes.

I want to use the Presentation Display on my PowerBook G4, but I can't figure how to activate it. Today, I hooked up to my TV at home using SVideo but I couln't figure how to get the Presentation Display.

At school I have a 32" Zenith TV/Monitor and I also use S Video there.

Does it only work with a VGA connection?

I am disappointed and frustrated. I know I'll get it eventually, but. . .

You need to:

1. Turn OFF mirroring
2. Go into the Keynote prefs and in the Slideshow set it to Present on Secondary display
3. Click on the Presenter Display icon and make sure "Use alternate display to view presenter information" is checked.

It works with SVHS because I do it every week.
