I have a really hard time understanding why anybody would worry overly much about backing up their backup files. After all, a backup file is redundant in and of itself until and unless the hard drive on the computer it backed up fails. Since the chances of both the computer’s and the TC’s hard drives failing simultaneously are infinitesimally small, why worry about redundancy of backup files?

In addition to Time Machine backups, I use my TC to store MP4 movie files I use with iTunes and an Apple TV. Thus I do back them up to a USB drive attached to the TC. But the only time I have to do it is when I add a new movie file and doing that is easy.

It's not the backup of the backup that I worry about, but precisely this use: we keep movies and photos from our wedding on our Time Machine, and these don't reside on our computers. So we need backups of these! And the fact that backing up Time Machine files to a USB drive has to be manual makes it unreliable. Someone told me that one can make an Automator action, though.

I keep my entire iTunes and iPhoto Libraries on my TC. (so they are NOT on my MBP)

I was manually backing these up to an external drive, attached to the TC - in the meantime trying every backup solution I could find.

some would not see the TC, and the ones that did would backup the ENTIRE iPhoto Library every backup.

Than I found Chronosync:

Unlike some of the other backup solutions I came across, chronosync can look 'inside' of the iPhoto Library, and update only changed files.

I have been using it for a few months, and it has been flawless.
