ELP! keyboard problem still persists....

I don't know how many out there still have this problem

But for me, the missing first keystroke is still present after the 10.5.3 update and all the keyboard updates

It happens when the keyboard stays idle for about a minute and avoids the first key pressed afterwards

At least this was better than before when 2 or 3 or even complete words would be missing.

Now it's just one key.

Is there any more fixes I can try or does Apple think this problem is already solved?

I've been following this saga for some time and have held back from posting... but this problem is getting the better of me! I am running 10.5.3 and have the keyboard update. The update resolved my missing keystrokes (the first letter or two typed in a field) for a time, but now the problem has worsened.

Does anyone know of a solution? Might anyone know if Apple is still looking at the issue? I'm a writer and, whilst I'm living with this constant annoyance, I expect this expensive laptop to perform such a basic task effortlessly. Such a great computer is marred by such a tedious fault.

I have keyboard issues on my new 17" MBP. Many letters don't type. I can hit the same letter two or three times before it types. I had the keyboard replaced. Still have the problem. Reseller says it's a firmware issue.

FROM RESELLER:
Since the keyboard is new, there is nothing more we can do here. We ran software update on your machine so you have keyboard firmware 0.18 which is the latest one. You can call 1-800-MY-APPLE to complain, but it's in their hands now. They have either fixed the issue or are working on it. The keyboard works well for us, so the easiest solution if you find it still skips for you, is to buy a $30 temporary keyboard until they fix the issue. I find desktop keyboards always type better than laptop keyboards anyway.

Anyone learning anything new? I'm so SICK of this problem. ELP!

Just a reminder for those finding this issue for the first time...

So everyone please fill out the feedback to apple at this link:

and refer to the Bug ID (posted by tournesol):
Bug ID# 4333743

Also be sure to run the keyboard update.
It should appear in Software Update if you need it.

I still haven't had time to be without my macbook pro to have it looked at.
Currently running Ver. 10.5.4 all updates and Kb FW is the latest and yet still have the "ELP" issue.

Interestingly though, I don't have the problem when running windows in Bootcamp.
As a result, I don't boot into Mac OS hardly at all anymore.

What a Joke! I bought a Mac to try and make the switch from windows, and now I pretty much run windows all the time.

Thanks Apple for first impressions.

Just wanted to let the rabble know that 10.5.4 didn't fix things at all for me. Yep, I also have the keyboard update as installed a few months ago.

I'm a fluent touch typist and type rather quickly... so once I have clicked in a field on a website etc and am certain the cursor is ready I begin to type and routinely the first letter or two are missed. This is a major frustration when entering passwords and the like as I'm constantly having to re-enter them.

Even after the keyboard firmware update, I still have this problem. Apple seriously needs to fix these silly problems that never occur on PC laptops, it's insane! It's the same with AirPort, with almost every update it's broken again. :-/

I'm sorry if I come over as 'aggressive', but I'm getting really tired of my MacBook and Apple not fixing these insane problems.

I am so glad that I returned my macbook pro when it crashed more often than my Dell M70 and had the annoying ELP problem. I had hoped to run Solidworks under windows, that was a miserable failure under Boot Camp, Fusion and Parallels. Open GL graphics were not available to the program.

I will buy a macbook pro again when the ELP problem is fixed, and Solidworks runs on the Windows side.

Last time I posted here I was still on 10.4.11. Now I'm on 10.5.3 and have installed the KB update. Still as bad as ever, not just the first keystroke but it drops around 20% of the characters I type. I'm typing this on an external KB, so not a problem. Additionally, the trackpad sometimes goes to sleep - I need to trace my finger across for a couple of seconds before it wakes up. Might be time for a call to Applecare as I can part with it for a short while . . .

ELP! keyboard problem still persists....
