Apogee Duet popup not working, Maestro not starting automatically

I recently had a Apogee Duet working with Leopard 10.5.2, it started presenting issues that where corrected as soon as I installed the may 2008 Apogee Duet update. But now I upgraded to 10.5.3 and all of a sudden my apogee popups which I use a lot where gone and Maestro doesn't start as soon as I connect the Duet. I have to manually start Maestro every time. I already tried to uninstall and install the software again with no luck and the apple firewire audio drive that comes with the may 2008 apogee update says it cannot be installed in Leopard 10.5.3

Is there any fixing to this or is this yet another issue from apogee or maybe apple?

I will appreciate any help. Thank You

Ok... so here is the deal, first of all apogees support is great! Very professional, and they do resolve issues and they DO make test based on your system... great service.

In my case I solved the problem!! as told by apogee's support this issue will be resolved in the next update but the problem is easy to solve... Maestro's problem and the duet popups problems where solved by installing arial bold in Macintosh HD/library/fonts... yep that's it... the problem is that duet uses this fonts I guess and since I have a font manager for designing I took them out (I hate arial) and had them managed by the font manager. So I just took those out of the font manager and put them back on the original font folder in the macintosh HD library... restarted and threw away all preferences just in case... now everything is back to normal!

for the guy who still has problems, don't worry my guess is that apogee will come through, although I will check out carefully your issue and try to help.

the firewire driver is different from the apogee duet update...
read the install instructions and you will se that it tells you to install one update first and then another... the second one is the firewire driver update which you DON'T NEED.
forget firewire audio update and only install the duet update...

if you have Leopard 10.5.3 you already have the latest firewire audio driver.

also erase any preferences from your home/library/preferences folder and a duet preference on Macintosh HD/library/preferences (duet daemon)

if this doesn't make it work the it is probably some issue from before depending on the presonus drivers and other possible issues. If there is a way for you to do this easily I always recommend to make a fresh system install on a machine when changing sound cards for recording and stuff... you can never be to careful if you are looking for a stable system...

I have run the hardware test, all fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Duet installer multiple times, both the version that came with the unit (Dec 07) and the May 08 v 1.7 from the apogee web site. Nothing works.
I have heard the unit has log in and multiple user problems. That may be part of the problem as I have two users on my Mac Pro, both are administrators but the only time I have been able to get duet to even halfway work is if I install it under the user name that was created when I first turned on the computer out of the box.
I emailed apogee support yesterday but have heard nothing.
I am beyond frustrated with this situation and have already wasted hours and hours trying to get it resolved. I am especially angry because for the few minutes I was able to get sound out of this thing yesterday, it sounded great. I am going to return the duet, and just say #%@# it, and use the analog plugs on the back of my Five Thousand dollar brand new Macintosh. I hate leopard.

Do you have an Apple cinema display? The firewire hook up to the cinema displays seems to be a common problem.

I also couldn't get the Duet to work consistently. (see all my posts in this thread) I spoke today with Sweetwater (who I bought it from) and they connected me with Apogee directly. The Apogee tech said he had encountered many people with similar complaints that all resolved with disconnection of the Firewire connector on the Apple cinema displays. He also said that the few that this didn't completely resolve the issue, then disconnected external Hard Drive FW connectors, and this fixed them. (Fortunately, it looks like Duet doesn't mind my external FW drives)

I disconnected my display's FW cable and installed the May 2008 Duet installer program (available from Apogee web site). Everything seems to work fine now. I have even logged in and out multiple users, sleep mode. etc. All works.

There also were rumors that the Duet didn't work with 10.5.3. That is what I have and it is fine. Apogee tech support also said that they were not encountering any SPECIAL problems with 10.5.3 and had alot of people up and running on it.

Hope this helps.

Interesting that you are able to run your duet through the cinema port. The apogee rep said the duet really didn't like the FW hookup of a cinema display, even when the Duet was connected via a direct FW port on the chasis of the computer, which was the situation I was having. My cinema displays were connected to the computer via a satellite FW hub, and this was enough to make the Duet not work. When I disconnected the FW from the Cinema displays at the hub and reinstalled Duet, it worked perfectly.
