Safari will not let me login to facebook.

I've had this problem for a while now, and every time I try to login to facebook, I get this error message:

Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “ https://login.facebook.com/login.php” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “login.facebook.com”.

I can access every other part of facebook besides logging in. My firewall is not on, I've tried other web browsers: Firefox, Camino, and sea monkey, but I still get the same error message of some sort. What do I do? Safari loads every other paige besides this.

Mac OS X (10.5.3)

The problem you describe sometimes occurs from using a Proxy. Is this true for you?

Well I looked at proxies, and in the box where it says select a protocol to configure, I have nothing checked, and in the box the says configure proxies: manually.

Strange you're seeing the same error across browsers. Are you using any 3rd party ad or internet blocker?

Hi,

Nope I have none of them. But I do have parental controls set on my computer. I have no idea if that has anything to do with it because when I try to login it doesn't say the parental controls block it.

Hi

From your Administrator Account, open System Preferences>Accounts. Highlight the account with parental controls. Then, select "open Parental Controls". Once open, select the content panel>allow access to only these web sites. Is Facebook listed? If so, remove it or any that do not apply.

I have the same problem, but in my case, it's about whether I'm a admin or not.

If I'm an admin, I don't get any errors, but if I'm not, I get them on every page which requires a secure connection (urls starting with https://)
Really annoying.

I think it started about one or two months ago, with 10.5.2 or so.

Update to 10.5.4 via Software Update. Best not to use the computer for other tasks during the install. There is a prolonged restart as System files are updated. If you are using a laptop, make sure the power adapter is plugged in. When complete, "repair permissions" via Disk Utility. Restart Safari. Perhaps the update will resolve the conflict with Facebook.

I'm having the same problem, but it only started after I updated to 10.5.4. Not only can I not log into facebook, but I can't log into any site using https, including mac.com.

I've got the same issue w/ my son's account on the lego.com site. Won't let him log in. It works fine from my (admin) account, but either one of my sons accounts it doesn't. Have parental controls running. Used to work fine. Need a solution - PLEASE!

This is precisely the same problem I am having with Facebook. It worked fine, albeit slower than IE using XP for some reason, and stopped after updating to 10.5.4 and Safari 3.1.2. Changing browsers makes no difference. This is becoming more and more obvious its not a "browser" but instead something Apple changed with their last round of updates.

i'm having the same problem now.... started 2 days ago... can't login into facebook or even any of my gmail accounts..... however it works when try getting in via firefox....

Check that "private-browsing" isn't checked under the Safari menu, as that will affect Facebook cookies. I know I used to have this problem, until I realized I forgot to take it out of private browsing.

I wanted to respond to this because it is something worth checking on. I do not have private browsing selected when using Safari. As for Firefox and Camino I do not believe they even have such an option and they wont allow me to logon either.

The error message points to something that could be fixed by the utility Keychain Access.

Under the Application folder there's the Utilities folder. There you'll find the application "Keychain Access". Double click it to launch it.

Under the Keychain Access drop down menu there's an item called Keychain First Aid. Click on it and after it prompts you for your password, select Repair. Then click Start. See if there's anything repaired. In that case, restart Safari and try the problem website again.
