Exchange Setup/iPhone 2.0

Doesn't seem to be as easy as it looks...I'm probably just missing something small somewhere.

Has anyone had any success in setting it up yet?

We have checked all the settings, and tried everything suggested in this thread. Still cannot get email from Exchange.

When entering the account (again!), we very briefly get "configured for sync (null)" before the account verifies.

No (other) error messages at all. If a password is changed, the iPhone prompts for the new password so we know it's communicating with Exchange, but NOTHING comes through. Not push, not pull.

This is very frustrating.

I can't explain it, but here's an unusual thing with my setup...If I type in the ip address (numbers) for my Exchange Server instead of the name, my Outlook mail syncs. But, here's the weird thing...This is only the case if I'm not connected through my office's WiFi. If I am, it's just the opposite and the typed out Exchange Server name is what works. Weird, right?

For everyone were nothing else has worked try the following:

1. Go to settings
2. Click Mail, contacts, calendars
3. On Preview select 2 lines.

Humor me, it worked for me on my company's exchange servers. Everything was pushed to my iPhone.
Everything that folks said here was helpful. I would manually poll and it would contact our server and nothing would come back. I made two changes at the time and this is the only one that should have had any effect. Maybe a quirk with our servers, but it worked.

Dolph,

Is this what you're referring to:

+Make sure the DNS for your network returns a single, externally-routable address to the Exchange ActiveSync server for both intranet and Internet clients. This is required so the device can use the same IP address for communicating with the server when both types of connections are active.+

I wish I knew what the heck this means...

SO SIMPLE, YET SO EASY

I maintain an Exchange Server at home - (SBS2003) - and had many of the problems heard here. I had the 'null' problem, i had the 'acted like it sent, but it didnt' problem, i had the many issues with logins, etc... and in the end, what fixed it was making sure that SSL wasn't required for the OMA virtual directories and then UPDATING EXCHANGE.

Some time again (for Exchange 2003) a second service pack was released (SP2) that I hadn't installed. As I reviewed the symptoms of my problems for going on the 11th hour, I found a posting elsewhere that mentioned an issues was fixed in this SP2. Since my experience with M$ has been one where I've learned not to jump at updates, I didn't jump at this one at first, and then must have forgotten about it. But, I can tell you that the instant the system came back online, everything worked and was fast!

Also, there are 5 ports which need to be able to flow in your firewalls, easily found online as well.

hi,

i encountered the well known problems when trying to setup the iphone for acttivesync with an exchange 2003-sp2-server.
after checking the deployment guide i decided to check the iis-logfiles. and there i found my problem:
the iphone tried to open the virtual dir /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync on port 80 (i disabled ssl for debugging). after checking the permissions (iis-management console) for this folder i found that only the server itself was allowed to access this dir. i removed this rule temporarily and voila, the iphone was able to connect and to sync mails, contacts and the calender.
maybe this is helpful for some of you guys to.

I have an iPhone (not the new 3g). I installed 2.0 today. I can't get Exchange to work. I use Microsoft Outlook for my job, and I mainly would like to get my email remotely without having to open up a safari page on my iPhone, enter the login and password, and then go through a pretty cumbersome process to send and receive email. I never have issues opening up a safari page on my macbook, logging in, etc.

I feel like I'm doing things right when I attempt to set up a new account (below is a generic description):

Email: Lindsay@bla.com
Username: Lindsay
Password: Mypassword
Description: Lindsay@bla.com

Then I click "Next." It then says Verifying Exchange account information. Then I get this message:

"Unable to verify certificate. While automatically discovering account settings, the certificate from "bla.com" could not be verified."

I then get two options, accept or cancel. I click accept. I assume that this could be a problem right here, and perhaps not one associated with Apple or my iPhone, but perhaps with my work's server.

Then it says Enter your exchange account information. In the Server part, I enter mail.bla.com (which is the exchange address for my work), and click Next. It then says Verifying Exchange account information. Then it says:

"Unable to Verify Certificate. The certificate from "mail.bla.com for account "" could not be verified."

I get two options, accept or cancel. I click accept. Again, this step may be a problem.

It then says "Exchange account verified." That sounds promising. Then it says "Select info to synchronize using exchange." I only leave mail on and leave contacts and calendars off. I click save. Then I quickly get a notation at the top that talks about my account being "(null)" and then the message goes away within a second.

So . . . my bla account shows up in my accounts. My inbox, however, is empty and any attempt to write email does not result in an outgoing mail.

So does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh, and I signed up for mobile me, 60 day trial, in the hopes that that would I would be able to set up exchange to "push" email that way (as I thought mobile me was supposed to do), but that does not work either. In iTunes, I'm only given the option I'm given to sync are dot.mac accounts.

I'm a frustrated kid right about now. The tutorials really don't give much help in the way of setting up accounts; I'm not sure why

I am using the first generation iPhone running the 2.0 software. I was able to successfully step through the Exchange ActiveSync set-up process (everything seemed to work as advertised). The only problem is that I cannot RECEIVE mail from my Exchange Server.

There seems to be communication and authentication with the server, as I am able to successfully sync contacts and calendar events. I can event send mail and and access the Exchange directory to look up company addresses.

When I try to access my inbox, my iPhone shows the folder structure (my inbox as well as all other server folders that I have on the Exchange Server). After trying to retrieve messages, the iPhone returns the following message:

Cannot Get Mail
The connection to the server failed.

I've tried blowing away the Exchange profile and re-creating it, and I've also restored the 2.0 upgrade from scratch. Neither of these made any difference.

If anyone else out there has had this experience and can give me guidance, I would be grateful. At this point, I suspect a server configuration issue, but I'm not certain.

I have the same issue. The set-up of the exchange account worked well. Calendar and contacts synchronize. In the mail, my mail folders appear, but no mails in the folders. I get the following error message "Cannot Get Mail - The username or password for username@company.com is incorrect". I'm sure the password is correct as the account was correctly verified and calendar and contacts synchonize. I tried changing my password on the company domain, deleting the exchange account on iphone and setting it up again with the new password. Same problem. I notice some of you have encountered similar problems. Did anyone get this fixed ? Please help
