Exchange Setup/iPhone 2.0

Doesn't seem to be as easy as it looks...I'm probably just missing something small somewhere.

Has anyone had any success in setting it up yet?

I don't know if this will help anyone, but my work is using the Exchange 2007 server, and I was able to connect using Exchange on my iPhone with the following settings.

email: user.address.company.com (where "user" is my email name, and "address" is what I use to access webmail (e.g., to log into webmail I go to "mail.company.com" so I replace "address" with "mail"))

Server: address.company.com (see above)

Username: Domain\user (I was able to find my domain name by logging into webmail, and choosing "change password" which shows the domain-name and user.

Password: Your password.

After two days trying to get my iPhone to sync with Exchange 2007 the problem in my case turned out to be blindingly obvious. Make sure you've got a suitable authentication method allowed within IIS for 'Micorsoft-Server-ActiveSync'.

My installation of Exchange is about as vanilla as you can get and once I'd enabled 'Basic Authentication' everything started to work. I have no recollection of ever disabling it, so I'd say all methods are set to 'Disabled' by default.

I talked to my IT dept. and they told me it should work with activesync just like blackjacks etc., which are working on our network. I step through everything they told me and it doesn't work. Our set up is pretty straight forward except there is a significant mismatch between user names and the email prefixes, which I suspect is an issue. Our company uses the following syntax for the activesync server "sync.company.com" and our emails are "first.last@company.com" our domain is "comp" and our user name is a combination of random letters and numbers e.g. "abc123." I have entered the

following into the setup after it could not auto discover:
email: first.last@company.com
server: sync.company.com
domain\user name: comp\abc123
password: mypassword

Does anyone know the details of how the username is used? Is it being passed along as abc123@company.com or do I need to explicitly state this. Also, should I change my email address to reflect this e.g. email=abc124@company.com. I have tried these and they do not seem to work.

I seem to be having a problem with just one user. I have successfully configured several exchange accounts to my users. I have successfully configured my exchange account to this one users iPhone(then deleted), but I cannot configure her exchange to work on her phone. I checked all settings with her account and its active and working. Her account name is long however, it is 25 characters long and does contain a hyphen before the @. Is there an email exchange size limit?

Thanks

I had the same problems as everyone here... after much hair pulling and frusturation... here is what I did... I found a few artciles online about a similar fix. This is all done on the Exchange server and includes editing the registry.

Start Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. Locate the Exchange virtual directory. The default location is the following:
Web Sites\Default Web Site\Exchange
Right-click the Exchange virtual directory, click All Tasks, and then click Save Configuration to a File the File name box, type a name. I used ExchangeVDir. Click OK. After the file is saved, go back to IIS and Right-click the root of this Web site. Typically, this is Default Web Site. Click New, and then click Virtual Directory (from file). In the Import Configuration dialog box, click Browse, and locate the file that I created earlier, click Open, and then click Read File. Under Select a configuration to import , click Exchange, and then click OK. A dialog box will appear that states that the "virtual directory already exists." In the Alias box, type a name for the new virtual directory for Exchange ActiveSync and Outlook Mobile Access to use. I used ExchDAV. Click OK. Right-click the new virtual directory (ExchDAV) and select the properties...Click the Directory Security tab. Under Authentication and access control, click Edit. Make sure that only Integrated Windows Authentication and Basic Authentication is checked and then click OK. Under the IP address and domain name restrictions section, click edit and then click Denied Access, click on Add, then Single Computer and put in the IP address of the server. Click OK to exit. Click Edit on Secure Communications and make sure that Require SSL is not enabled. Click OK. (SSL Does not need to be enabled here as it is already enable at the root)

Now I needed to make a registry edit to point to the new virtual directory within IIS. Open Regedit and locate the following key: HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MasSync\Parameters

Right click Parameters and select New, then String Value and then Give it a name, I used ExchangeVDir and then press Enter. Select the string, right click and select Modify. In the value box, put the name of the virtual directory with a forward slash (that's important)... it will look like this: /ExchDAV and then click ok. Exit the registry and restart IIS admin service.

Hope this helps... this fixed our problems.

By the way, this is pretty ridiculous that for all the website tutorials Apple has online, virtually nothing assists you in setting up the exchange accounts, something new for a new product, apparently assuming everyone would figure it out for him/herself.

Maybe I'm not that bright, but the fact is that I'm clearly not the only one!

In my IIS logs, I see the below. So there is some form of communication in. But what is this telling me, where is the fault, as no email coming to inbox on iPhone running v2.0. OWA from anywhere works fine.
