"Disc burner or software not found" error.

"Disc burner or software not found" error.

Basically despite the fact that my burner is listed under "advanced" preferences and I can burn using any other program, I get "Disc burner or software not found" error on my iTunes 5.

Any suggestions, I really want to solve this problem.

I have the exact same issue. I'm using an nec 3520a dvd burner. I uninstalled 5 and went back to 4.9 and could burn again.

I am also having the same problem. Also I uninstalled 5 and installed 4.9 and was able to burn as well. However I like the 5 better and would like for it to work. Any other thoughts?

Count me in, after "upgrading" to V5 I can no longer burn. I don't have an older copy of iTunes any ideas where one can be found?

Here's my work around, it's a PITA but, it works.

Windows XP Machine runing iTunes 5 won't burn
It will make a DVD data disk
This put's mp4s on a DVD
I take this to my Mac runing iTunes 4 OSX(which does burn) but, it won't import mp4s
So I make a file in the music libarary, make a folder in the appropriate area (under the artist name) and copy the mp4 tracks to the folder
Then I import them into the itunes 4 libarary and itunes recognizes them and will burn them.

Yup, having the exact same problem. Also with the NEC 3250A. Hope 5.0.x or 5.1 come out soon to fix this.

You can try downloading version 4.9 from here for the windows XP or 2000 OS. http://mirror.internode.on.net/pub/apple-itunes/iTunesSetup4.9WIN2KXP.exe

Thanks Shane - but that link is only valid for Internode Broadband subscribers.

I have all the same problems on my desktop described above, except that I have a Plextor PX-716A drive.

I do, however, have 4.9 on my laptop. The setup file is about 21.5 Meg. I can send it to you if you want.

Get a gmail account and you will have plenty of space (> 2.5 Gig). I can send you an invite. That is the only way to get a gmail account, i.e., someone has to invite you. Let me know what you want to do.

add another person to this list. i have a nec-3540 too and am experiencing the same symptoms everyone else in this thread is seeing.

Same here. Everything worked great in version 4.9 but I am unable to burn with 5.0. Any idea how long it usually takes Apple to release a patch for this type of thing?

So there's quite a lot of us having the same problem with the "Disc burner or software not found" error. When using 4.9 the disc burner was working just fine on my PC until I installed 5.0. CD Diagnostics still looks fine with 5.0. I'm using Nero and burning other stuff than via iTunes works just fine.
So, there seems to be a lot of fixes for helping installing 5.0 but anyone got some hint when it comes to get the CD burner up running?
I've spent ages trying to solve this, have installed XP from scratch again and again. I'm not able to reinstall 4.9, only the 5.0 (but again, without the CD burner in operational condition). Please HELP
