"Disc burner or software not found" error.

Basically despite the fact that my burner is listed under "advanced" preferences and I can burn using any other program, I get "Disc burner or software not found" error on my iTunes 5.

Any suggestions, I really want to solve this problem.
Thanks

Same problem, same situation after upgrading and same Plextor 716A burner as another poster. Drive firmware upgrades do not solve this problem (which is obviously an iTunes issue).
A cautionary note: some people trying to revert to 4.9 may not be able to read their music libraries. This is what happened to me, at least.
Looking forward to hearing about a genuine fix/patch...

I'm pretty sure I've located what's causing this "Disc burner or software not found" error. Looks like it will be up to Apple to fix it though.

As you've all seen it's possible to run CD diagnostic and see track numbers FW version, speed etc.
However, it's not possible to view the disc burner when choosing "Settings", "Advanced" and "Burn" (I've got a Norwegian version so I'm not sure if the commands are spelled correct).
Despite my NEC ND-3540A was working fine under iTunes 4.9 it's not working under iTunes 5.0.
I decided trying to swap over to my old NEC ND-1300A DVD burner and guess what... my iTunes 5.0 works just fine and I'm able to burn my files.

The conclusion, the way I see it, must be that the list of compatible disc burners in the iTunes 5.0 is OLDER/less up-to-date than the list Apple used when releasing the 4.9 version.
Does this make sense to you?

Yes, it makes sense. I have a Plextor PX-716SA which does not burn but when I hooked a SONY USB, it burns perfectly. When I run CD Diagnostics, it does not see my drive, I get "ASPI32 running"...after all the version info.

I really wish they would come up with a fix. AppleCare is not helping at all. One tech told me they don't do iTunes technical support over the phone...is that true??

I've got the NEC 3520a too. But i noticed that iTunes still listed a sony burner i had in before i replaced it with the NEC. So in the advanced buring tab it says the sony is the only drive available for burning. It must be some code to import previous options into the new version that is also killing the burning process?? I do know one thing though, a fix would be nice.

I have a NEC ND-3540A and have been experiencing the same issue. Have fixed using following:

browse to this folder
C:\program files\iTunes\CD Configuration\gcdroem.cfg

Open with Notepad (or similar)
search for a line containing all the NEC drives e.g. ND-3500A
insert another line but now using your drive i.e. ND-3540A

Close the editor and save.

Now iTunes should see your drive in the edit/prefs/advanced/burn tab.

I guess V5 was not complete enough to contain all latest NEC drives. I thibk this will work for all missing drives, just find your manufacturer in this congfig file and insert your drive type. Then iTunes will load the generic drive info for burning.

Good luck...!

OMG thx that is awesome henryk!
I looked in those files thiking it was just some install crap.
I didn't think to try adding my device name to the list!
By the way, i think you may need to add it to the section headed by [autodetect] section too (in the lower part of the file) if your drive is via usb. That is the only place i found my usb cdrw that i was using. Good luck and thx!
