Exchange ActiveSync -- Calendars sync, Contacts sync, Mail does NOT

My contacts, calendar and mail folders are all syncing fine, suggesting that the OMA and certifucate setup is fine. However, my mailbox wont sync... When i try to open any of the folders on my iPhone it says... "Connecting..." (with the spinner) for about 2 mins, then throws...

"Cannot Get Mail"

"The connection to the server failed."

Using Network Monitor on the server, I can see that there is a SSL connection established to the server, and indeed, the fact that the folders, contacts, and calendar are syncing mean that clearly it CAN connect to the server.

No log files on this crappy device makes it extremely difficult to diagnose. Anyone any ideas?

that is what I thought as well... But the guy here is saying you must have the business data plan or the functionality simply will not work. I am an exchange admin myself and understand the SSL is just a port. I am just wondering if they somehow have a way to disable activesync setup with the mail client. Can anyone verify activesync works without business data plan?

Same issue for me... Been on hold with Apple/ATT for over 2 hours today so far, and no one can tell me if I need the enterprise rate plan. My assumption is that to use direct push, you will need the enterprise rate plan. I'm also an exchange admin, and I know my network is setup correctly for it. I have over 100 mobile 6.1 phones working fine, my old HTC 8525 was syncing fine... Stupid Iphone won't. This is highway robbery if you have to pay the extra $15 a month for this feature.. TOTAL BS

I had a similar problem when placing my exchange server info in- it did not seem to 'take' my password no many time i would enter it. What I did was down load this:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iphoneconfigurationutility10formacosx.htm l
this tool allowed me to set up all the info and then just email it to your phone and the phone does the rest. it also has a logging feature that makes the phone less 'crappy' and easy to diagnose.
cheers-

You DO NOT need the enterprise rate plan to get your phone working with exchange. It's a plan for business customers, which is a nice ploy to screw companies into another $15. HOWEVER, if you are just a normal user with the regular $30 plan, IT WILL STILL WORK! My friend was able to sync his iPhone perfectly with his company's extensive exchange network, with his personal plan. So, I REPEAT, you DO NOT NEED THE ENTERPRISE PLAN IF YOU'RE A NON-CORPORATE USER.

Are you all making sure that you're entering your information in correctly?

Meaning, if you e-mail address is person@company.com, and your login is company/person, and your web access is mail.company.com/owa, follow these:

E-Mail: person@company.com
Username: company/person
Password: (your password)

If it then prompts you for a server, enter: mail.company.com

Once you get past that, if you're all configured, but not retreiving e-mail, maybe my other post will be helpful to you: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1600230&tstart=0.

I have been fighting this for almost 48 hours. My exchange account info is 100% correct, verified by our IT admin and my colleague who has been successful. Our admin also confirmed twice, that my account on the exchange server is definitely enabled for Activesync (usually NOT enabled, so you should confirm with your IT).

On the iPhone I input the basic account info. Be advised the format above does NOT work for all companies. For example, my usual webmail access is owa.company.net; on the iphone it is owa5.company.net. The user name is domain\username; not company/username. So be careful and do exactly as your exchange admin advises.

In my case, my info immediately validates, the folder structure downloads, the contacts download, I can send mail, but I can never receive mail and get the same error as noted above.

The data plan is confusing; my colleague is using the first iphone with 2.0 software; he configured and it worked immediately. I bought the 3G, and it has only errored as described. Same exact exchange email. He does not have the business data plan. I did not either.

So, I upgraded to business for $15 more. 10 hours later, no difference. I suspect the personal data will work if someone can figure out what's causing this failure.

I've tried all of the suggestions given here in turn. I have verified all of the information for my Exchange Server (I previously had a Treo with ActiveSync that worked 100% correctly with this info), and I tried switching to a forward slash from a back slash. No dice. This is becoming very frustrating. My next (and probably futile) option is contacting support directly for assistance.
