Visual Voicemail doesn't work

When i try to get my voicemail, i get a automated response that says this:

"Welcome to AT&T Voicemail, we need more information to direct your call to the appropriate voice mailbox. To leave a message, please dial the 10-digit phone number of the person you are trying to call. If you have a mailbox in this system, please press pound."

Any help? I don't know my mailbox number, my phone number won't work.

If i call my phone and go to voicemail, the message i get is: "I'm sorry, but the person you called has a voice mailbox that has not been set up yet, Good bye."

I had same problem. Holding down the "1" key did absolutely nothing. I did dial 611 for help and through the menu selection found the one for resetting my voicemail password. The system reset my password and sent me a text message with the new password and lo and behold my voicemail magically started working. Had to enter new password to get in. Now I have to figure out how to reset the password to one of my choosing. No problem.

This was happening to me and I called ATT and they transfered me to apple and what you need to do is hold down the number 1 on the phone pad. This will call voicemail... then hang up and try going to "voicemail" and see it the visual voice mail works, if not, then repeat. It took me about five tries until it worked. Holding down the 1 key resets the visual voicemail. Hope this works for you!

got mine working as well, but same thing with the other end of the line...still acts as if theres no mailbox set up. I talked with ATT they say its an Apple problem...i dont see how it can be an Apple problem if everythings now working fine on the phone, the service is what has got to be causing the problem. Im going back up to the ATT store where I got it and will see what they say, who knows...

Got a new IPhone 3g. Never accessed my Voice mail. When I click on the voicemail it does not show anything.

This is a very simple to fix..just need to reset your Voicemail PIN via ATandT. Follow these steps,

1. Log on to atandt site and go to

Manage (on the top) -> Phone/Device (on the bottom)

2. Select Reset Voicemail PIN on the left side and then click on Submit. This will send a message to your iphone, saying that its been reset to your last 7
digits on your phone.

3. Now go to the voicemail.. and it will work with setup questions.
