iPhone 3G bluetooth echo?

Hi --

I had a 1st gen iPhone (1.1.4) that I would pair with my BMW, worked great. Yesterday I bought an iPhone 3G. I can still pair it with my car, but now all of my conversations have a terrible echo. It's impossible to talk to anyone - we both hear a delayed echo of my voice. What is causing this? Is it software? Is it my phone that is a dud? Is the bluetooth in the new iPhone substandard?

Thanks.

I have just bought a new iphone and it is running 3.1.2 synced it with my car and my hubby is complaining about the horrid echo. I have had the bluetooth in my car which in the past has been synced with numerous other phones and have never had this problem. It would appear to be the phone. So sad, as I was so excited about the phone and this is a big draw back as I use my phone a lot in the car.... Apple please fix it!!

I have the exact same issue with my iPhone 3GS and my Range Rover Sport, and my girlfriend has the issue with her 3G and her Land Rover LR3. The echo that callers hear is terrible and has caused us both to go back to using our iPhones while driving without a hands free device (which is illegal in CA!).

This is my first post to the apple discussion boards (hi!) but I'm hoping if we get enough people discussing this issue Apple will fix this problem.

I have a 2006 Range Rover HSE and an 8GB Black iPhone 3G and I don't hear any echo in the car when I am on a call but the person I am talking to says there is a terrible echo and asks me to take them off of bluetooth because it us unbearable. This needs to be fixed immediately! What is the point of bluetooth and the safety of handsfree calling if your phone can't use it effectively. We need a patch NOW!

I wouldn't worry about it, ANY use of a mobile phone in a car will soon be banned anyway.

"States should ban drivers from using hand-held _and hands-free_ cell phones, and businesses should prohibit employees from using cell phones while driving on the job, the congressionally chartered National Safety Council says,"

I have a 3G and recently purchased an Alpine KCE-BT400 bluetooth handsfree device and am getting a HORRIBLE echo. Ticks off everyone that I talk to and renders the device completely useless. Have tried all the volume related "fixes" turing off the 3G network setting...everything. Still echoes. Apple says call Alpine, Alpine says call Apple who has said it's AT&T. Ridiculously frustrating.

and the problem...IS STILL THERE!! I was excited that the new phone was to have an additional microphone for noise cancelation. THought that even though Apple never admitted anything about the echo problem they took steps to fix it. On one hand, they did in that it doesn't echo anymore if your hand is cupped over the speaker, but it still echos on my handsfree device in my car...ridiculous.
