New 16Gb iPhone and I can't find my own phone number

I just got the new 16G iPhone and cannot find where my own cell number appears within the phone. My friends say it should be at the top of my contact list (the one available through phone), but my number is not there and I cannot locate a setting for this. Any help????

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

It sounds like your phone number didn't get recorded onto the sim since that is where the iPhone pulls the info from.

You may or may not have an old phone that can change the phone number recorded on the sim. I have an old Samsung iPhone that can do this. I changed my phone number last week and used the Samsung phone to change the number on the sim. Because I did this, the phone number shows up correctly in iTunes and the two areas mentioned by users above.

It may be something for you to try if you can.

Dudes and Dudettes...I really appreciate many of the suggesttions, but...its not like I can't find my own friggin; number. Its on my bill, caller ID, in black marker on the back of my hand, etc., etc. That said, it SHOULD show on the phone as others have suggested, so that tomorrow, when I'm talking to someone and they ask for my number, I'll know where to go to get it. For some reason, my number does not show anywhere....it just hate glitches like that and would like to correct the problem.....any suggestions - with the exception of the call someone with caller ID (which is really funny but not helpful)- are welcome.

Thanks.
