Exchange Active Sync Frustrations

I have read through all of the posts and it feels like I have tried everything I can think of. I have fixed OMA on my exchange server. (By the way, Sharepoint, multiple domains, and ASP.Net 2.0 all can break OMA (Activesync) Microsoft has docs on fixing all of these scenarios.

I am now at the point where I can browse to my server from my iPhone going to https:\\<servername>\OMA and login to my mailbox. I can pull up text versions of my inbox, contacts etc. from Safari in the iPhone. I have also installed our self issued cert on my iPhone. (And it no longer prompts me to accept the cert in safari or mail.) (I also confirmed that Exchange has Activesync enabled.)

On the iPhone Exchange account creation, the account verifies only after I type in the server name. After I choose what items I want to sync it says "Configuring sync for Exchange", then changes to "Configuring sync for (null)" briefly. After that when I get into mail it tells me it is updated with the current date and time. When I try to send a message it says "Cannot send Mail: An error occurred while delivering this message." This is the same message I was getting before I fixed OMA.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have 11 iPhones I need to configure for Exchange next week at two different offices, so I really need to get mine working. Thanks for reading!

If you'd like to test the functionality of EAS you could follow this blog posting (http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2007/09/17/447033.aspx)and install a Windows Mobile emulator on your PC to test against the server. Keep in mind where you're testing from and what FQDN (DNS) address you're using (sometimes something like server2.contoso.lcl). If you're testing within your network you may have to use the internal FQDN of your Exchange front-end server. If you're external (where your iPhone will connect from) you will need to use the external FQDN (ex. mail.contoso.com).

Well I solved it, but my solution wasn't pretty. First let me say that all of the suggestions in this thread cover most of the common issues with iPhone syncing.

I have also set iPhones up at several other offices and they worked great. Basically to test I would go to https://<Servername>/oma. If I could login and see their folders the iPhone generally ran well. If I couldn't see the folders then I fixed OMA and everything else flowed.

On my server this wasn't the case. I fixed several things, finally got OMA working and I still couldn't sync. I am certain I had some permission issue buried deep in IIS. I also found that the iPhone Configuration Utility is good to use to troubleshoot sync issues that extend beyond getting OMA working.

Now my final solution was to wipe my server, (SBS 2003) and reinstall with Windows 2008 and Exchange 2007. My iPhone was syncing with Exchange before I had e-mail flowing through the server. Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Hi Weeezz!!,

Did you get yours working, I've been trying for 3 weeks now and have the exact same problem, i.e. Everything seems to work during setup, but when I check my mail all I have is a "Inbox" entry under my exchange account and when I look in that folder it says "Checking Mail..." breifly and then says "Updated 08/01/2008 8:13 PM" but no mail shows up.

I have got the phone to cponnect to a gmail and web based exchange account but not my work server,
Help please anyone !
