iPhone 3G Lag is intolerable! Video examples included.

We are a couple of swedish guys that have been talking about the Iphone 3G since we bought it and then we started to compare the old phone and the new and everyone had extreme problems in lag in the interface on the Iphone 3G compared to the 1st Gen Iphone. So we decided to make a video so people can really see and compare.

This lag that people are having is not the only problem but is followed by Applications crashing, OS is freezing, safari going haywire. touch not responding.

Also ive gotten info that upgraded 1st Gen Iphones that have updated to 2.0 is getting the same lag.

1st video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE7HKFcQxoI
2nd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL7n9Vo7mJw&
3rd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLoAWRU0mHE&NR=1
Anyone who can reproduce this?

Apple you need to act now!

This firmware blows! Its so laggy that I get so frustrated. I mean I am on the phone most of the day and its a headache. The first gen was slow with the internet but at least it was stable for the most part. Now this one the internet is excellent but the system is buggy as ****. Safari crashes nonstop, cant type worth a lick, trying to erase is a journey in itself, and aps are crashing half the time.

I did try one thing, turned off location feature and it seemed to improve things a bit but will really see tomorrow when I am realling using the phone.

I think apple need to revamp the entire OS or give us a feature that can let us control memory usage.

An update on my 1st Gen IPhone fiasco.

2.0.2 has proved to be as bad, or worse, as 2.0 and 2.0.1.

So I called Apple Support (i use 'support' loosely here....) to try to get some answers. The first thing they tell me, "your iphone is out of warranty so you cannot get hardware support, just technical support". That's ok I tell them, the hardware is perfectly fine, it's the software that broke after 2.0. So they ask all the same questions, did you restore, did you reset, did you blah blah blah. Yes, I did all of these things dozens of times, no luck.

OK, so the woman says "I'm so sorry, Apple really regrets this happening to users", and she's very apologetic and goes on a while. Then she says there's nothing they can do about the problems. I'm getting a little testy now and tell her, look, this WAS the best cell-phone I've ever owned (and I've owned a TON) and in one day, pow, it's the worst cell-phone. All because of the upgrade to 2.0. So she goes and gets a product manager on the phone.

He tells me all the same stuff, restore, reset, don't put contacts and stuff back on until you test, etc. Then he says, and I'm not kidding, that it's a hardware problem, NOT a software problem. So I replied, "you are telling me that my 'hardware problem' started at exactly the same time as the upgrade to 2.0?" He says, "well, I know it sounds crazy, but yes, your hardware has gone bad and it just happened to go bad at the same time as the update."

Now I'm getting really ticked off. So I demand to be rolled back to 1.1.4 (the broadband chip also, not just the O/S) and Apple tells me it's impossible. "It's not supported and you would void any warranty you have", not that I have one mind you cuz it's hardware, remember?

So my options? Replace the phone by paying for the swap out. Buy a new 3g phone. Or...just live with the crappy phone as-is.

Sigh.

It is so hard to find precise and useful information on Apple's support site about the iPhone 3G. I do not know if it's an attempt to hide all the issues but we, the customers are taking a lot of pain. The iPhone 3G lag is intolerable. Most people in my office have an iPhone and everybody has the same complaint. PLEASE create more user friendly support site so that we understand what is happening and when will it be fixed. We are of troubleshooting our iPhone from Blogs info.

I was having the same incredibly slow response problem from my iPhone 3G so I went through all of these posts to find a solution. In the end I tried everything I could find and I think I've narrowed it down. In addition to the lag problem, my battery was just dropping every time I used it while out walking to lunch.

I took off the protective film I had added. I turned off exchange sync to my contacts and I removed the protective shell cover I had added. Now it's very responsive and I haven't even had the lag while typing. This may not fix everything, but it certainly helps by a long shot.

I think the lag is caused by the exchange account sync which was sucking all the resources out of the iPhone. The protective film was reducing the amount of electrical current coming off of my finger. The battery issue seems to be caused by not being able to dissipate the heat. I read on the support pages that heat causes the battery to lose power very quickly. The plastic cover I had added kept all the heat in. It has no holes in the back to help dissipate the heat.

Now it feels brand new and peppy! I'm a little worried about the lack of protection, but I'll have to deal with that some other way. I hope Apple can continue to work on the contact exchange sync to reduce the lag it causes.

I hope this helps!
