iPhone 3G Lag is intolerable! Video examples included.

We are a couple of swedish guys that have been talking about the Iphone 3G since we bought it and then we started to compare the old phone and the new and everyone had extreme problems in lag in the interface on the Iphone 3G compared to the 1st Gen Iphone. So we decided to make a video so people can really see and compare.

This lag that people are having is not the only problem but is followed by Applications crashing, OS is freezing, safari going haywire. touch not responding.

Also ive gotten info that upgraded 1st Gen Iphones that have updated to 2.0 is getting the same lag.

1st video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE7HKFcQxoI
2nd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL7n9Vo7mJw&
3rd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLoAWRU0mHE&NR=1
Anyone who can reproduce this?

Apple you need to act now!

Well, I just watched all 3 of your videos and really feel for you.

I have a brand new 16 MB iPhone 3G, received yesterday and I am not having typing lag problems at all... with my phone, I can type as fast as I can and the phone keeps up with me (the main problem is with my typos... lol).

I have just recorded it with my Exilim, so am going to try and post it so people can see for themselves... watch this space.

Richard.

I agree entirely with this post. However...

One workaround that seems to help stability is doing a hard reset (pressing the home and power buttons simultaneously) every time after I install a new app, update an app, or modify the communications settings. It shouldn't be this way from a company whose products supposedly "just work," however, until the rumored new firmware is released, which will hopefully fix all of the widely-reported bugs, even if that's all it does (i.e, no new features), then this is the best we can do for the time being.

Here's what I've noticed...
The iPhone 3G seems to have little to no lag when you reset/re-boot it.
Running Apple programs, such as safari, contacts, calendar, etc... Don't seem to slow it down.

3rd party applications such as the Cube Runner seem to have adverse affects on the overall system performance. Taking a wild guess, I would assume that some 3rd party applications are not freeing the memory they use once you exit them. So if you run a few 3rd party applications, your performance drops like a rock. A reboot tends to take care of the problem.

I can't find an application to monitor memory usage yet, but when one comes out, I'm sure we'll all be able to see which programs aren't playing nice with the iPhone.

This is one of the reasons Apple doesn't like to open their platforms to 3rd party developers. Many developers don't have a clue about memory management, and cause more problems than they solve. If you don't want to loose performance, don't run 3rd party applications until this is sorted out...
