iPhone 3G Lag is intolerable! Video examples included.

This sounds like a memory leak to me. This happens on my iMac occasionally. Even though I have 2.5 G or RAM, after I've had my mac on for a long time (several weeks) I start to get slow downs. A reboot seems to fix everything. Of course this is much better than with Windoze, but it still happens. I hope Apple finds a fix, because after seeing those youtube videos, I just cringed.

I was having the same issues, especially with contacts and then I went out on the road today and using maps + music player + email was becoming hard. Someone had mentioned that I should try the new firmware thats out (not officially you have to force a restore and it downloads the latest firmware ver. 347, the phones shipped with ver. 345, something like that).

Tried it, and let me tell you its definitely worked for me. The interface is much snappier, contacts are no longer an issue and also my push seems to be working more consistently now (this was always working, but sometimes I saw a delay of 5 - 10mins).

If you don't want to do the restore, just hold tight, sure all your interface concerns will be handled when Apple releases its first path.

This is the price we pay for being early adopters 🙂

Just another user confirming a serious lag in the 3G when attempting to load contacts and do a quick search/add. Reminded me of being back on my Treo 650.

I specifically remember testing out the lag time (there wasn't any!) on the AT&T 2G test model before deciding that I would buy the 3G.

Just as Jobs himself made fun of it at his WWDC keynote, I don't want a task manager. I just want Apple to put out an update that will remove the lag and keep it that way, no matter what app I run (ok, within reason... at least no lag in contacts.)

Please, everyone who is having an issue submit it to Apple iPhone Feedback...

I think if enough people are vocal about their issues, Apple will be more proactive in getting these issues fixed.

Unfortunately I always get the feeling that Apple developers generally don't read the forums.

TEMPORARY FIX!

hold the home button when in any application, including safari, to terminate, instead of just "minimizing"

my lag was taken away.

This workaround worked for me. Hold down the Home Key to shut the apps down (takes a few seconds) and it does the trick. That said, I've also done a Restore and got the new version of the firmware - everything seems a little more stable now.

ok, so I'm not alone with the lag...I was beginning to think it was a defective unit...

Please fix this ASAP Apple!!!!! otherwise, the iPhone 3G is the best device i've ever used.

I had similar problems but found a different way to fix them. In my case, I finally determined that it was due to having nearly 5,000 contacts on the phone. When I turned on MobileMe syncing, it synced all the contacts instead of just the groups I wanted. It took some time, but I eventually found the right settings to fix this. I doubt we'll see any sort of task manager for the iPhone anytime soon. Remember at the WWDC 08 keynote, they specifically poked fun at Windows Mobile for using a task manager?

ya, it sometimes takes an extra second or two to register touches..
Also occassionally when typing I press delete and it keeps deleting a whole sentence and I can't stop it.

The keyboard also seems like it has a speed cap on it even when it is functioning...

I've tried to reproduce the Address Book bug and I think it's affecting ALL iPods / iPhones with the new software version. I've tried out 2 new iPhone 3Gs and an iPod Touch all running the latest software and I can see the initial address book delay.

I urge everyone to submit a bug report at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html so that the issue can be resolved ASAP.
