iPhone 3G Lag is intolerable! Video examples included.

We are a couple of swedish guys that have been talking about the Iphone 3G since we bought it and then we started to compare the old phone and the new and everyone had extreme problems in lag in the interface on the Iphone 3G compared to the 1st Gen Iphone. So we decided to make a video so people can really see and compare.

This lag that people are having is not the only problem but is followed by Applications crashing, OS is freezing, safari going haywire. touch not responding.

Also ive gotten info that upgraded 1st Gen Iphones that have updated to 2.0 is getting the same lag.

1st video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE7HKFcQxoI
2nd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL7n9Vo7mJw&
3rd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLoAWRU0mHE&NR=1
Anyone who can reproduce this?

Im having the same problem on my 3G. When I type the keyboard takes a while to catch up with me. Ive also had several apps crash on me a few times. Apple did say this would happen if they allowed third party apps on the iphone. I guess not all developers create well written apps. Hopefully something can be done about the slowness in the OS itself.

I can not believe that more people have not found this thread. I also hope someone at the new applesoft is paying attention. Int he keynote address they said this exact thing would not happen with the new 3G. I know it's hard for Apple to foresee all issues, but all apps have to be approved by them, so that they don't cause these kinds of issues. I hate to say, but I think Apple became money/power/market share happy and rushed things. One of the things Apple fanatics have pointed fingers at Microsoft for doing for years.

Apple please Fix, and soon!

Well, I am seriously wondering about this.

Like you, I have never seen any lag with the keyboard when using my 16 GB iPhone 3G; I also live in SoCal, near San Diego and could not get my phone the first day as they had run out of stock, so had to wait for it to be shipped to me.

I can type on it as fast as I can and it is me that is the problem, not the phone 🙂

There are some things that I am wondering about, regarding the people with problems:

1. Could you check what it says under Settings, General, About on your phone?

I have:

Version: 2.0 (5A345)
Model: MB705LL
Modem Firmware: 01.45.00

...amongst the listing

2. Do you all have data services on your account?

If you are having a problem with using SMS, I wonder if it is related to whether you have data services or not. I don't see why that should be true though, as you are just inputing text, so why should the connection to send it on matter?

Notes:

a. You can see my vid of me typing on it [here|http://gallery.me.com/bentontechnical#gallery]

b. You can see some reasonably long posts that I did directly from my iPhone [here|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7652113#7652113]

c. It does not matter where I am typing, in Safari, SMS, Notes, whereever.

Hope that helps someone?

Richard.

I have been having problems with lag on my phone and some times to the point that it freezes or an app closing itself after trying to open it. I was told by ATT that I am supposed to power down and reset my phone daily. Never heard this before.....

Well that seems total rubbish to me!

I have only reset my phone once since I have had it, with absolutely no I'll effect. I have downloaded lots of apps from the apps store transfered lots of bids and music from my laptop, bought music via iTunes. The only reason I did the reset was because one app that I downloaded (a purchased one) got "stuck" in a state where it said "Installing" below the icon, and I could not delete it and re-download it. The reset sorted that out.

By the way, I am writing this post directly on my iPhone again and the keyboard is totally responsive and ahoy to use. As I said ing first post in this topic I really deal for those people with problems, but they must be either a bad batch of phones, older firmware or something, as my phone is working great!
