iPhone 3G Lag is intolerable! Video examples included.

We are a couple of swedish guys that have been talking about the Iphone 3G since we bought it and then we started to compare the old phone and the new and everyone had extreme problems in lag in the interface on the Iphone 3G compared to the 1st Gen Iphone. So we decided to make a video so people can really see and compare.

This lag that people are having is not the only problem but is followed by Applications crashing, OS is freezing, safari going haywire. touch not responding.

Also ive gotten info that upgraded 1st Gen Iphones that have updated to 2.0 is getting the same lag.

2nd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL7n9Vo7mJw&
3rd video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLoAWRU0mHE&NR=1
Anyone who can reproduce this?

I have the same issue. Some weird stuttering. I think it may be a memory issue where active RAM becomes full. They need to fix this quickly.

Additionally, I find the long zoom transitions for application opening and closing to be a bit slow and unnecessary, especially when you're really in a rush to get to a number, email, etc.

I removed all third party applications on my 3G and the lag is gone.

It's probably a memory management issue, and hopefully an OS update will fix this.

Sometimes pressing the home button and keeping it pressed until the app closes fixes things, but it's a boring procedure..

I'm much happier without the third party apps but with a snappy interface. But I'd like both thank you very much!

Another unsatisfied upgrader.

I'm experiencing all of the contacts lag, safari crashes and even the sleep/wake button lag, and also some of my notes have started to have different fonts to others (haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere though).

I have not installed any 3rd party apps, I only have about 20 contacts, and I have used less than 50% of my space on my iPod Touch 8GB 1st Gen.

So disappointed with Apple to release something that has made the phone so bad - it stinks of 'other' companies. This is not the Apple I know and love.

I went to test some of the iPhones at my local store and ALL of them experienced the same problem too. I'm amazed that this isn't a wider issue with at least hundreds of posts about it. It's either we're really lucky to be in the very few who are experiencing this problem or, and I suspect this is one is more probable, people are so fascinated by the new features and low price that they are not too bothered about the lag.

I really have no idea, but if I were to guess I'd say that Jobs is pushing deadlines a little harshly. This upgrade has all the signs of a rushed product. Just a lot of weird loose ends... like a few quirks with how iTunes handles applications and this lag problem. I think that it's impressive they did all this in such a short period of time, so it makes sense that there are issues. I'm not sure what would've been better at this point... a pushed back deadline, or an early release?

But yah, I've definitely got that lag issue.

same issue here..

iPhone 3G, latest firmware (5A347), had all 3000 contacts in there due to MobileMe syncing every Group. I since stopped doing cloud push on Addresses, now have 193 contacts via 1 'iPhone' Group on cradle sync.

Not nearly as lagging, but still slower than original iPhone running 1.1.4 OS

My iPhone 3G is very slow as well, especially when loading the contact list. I thought it was because my contact list is big (550 contacts), but other people with smaller contact lists experience the same issue. I've only used a few GB of my 16 GB space, so that can't be a problem. Accelerometer is responding slow as well, in multiple applications.

Let's wait for the iPhone software update. The problem is so common that they should have noticed it.

There should also be an easier way to switch Wi-Fi and 3G on and off, for example in the 'unlock screen' or when you double click the 'home button'. 3G multiplies the battery usage, but it takes four steps to get to the on/off switch.

550 contacts is not that many. I have 5000 in my iPhone and the contacts list is sloooow, very sloow. I had the same list on the same version under the pre 2.0 firmware (1.1.4) and there wasn;'t anywhere near the lag.

I agree with others that point to a memory leak. Safari crashes a lot as does Google Maps. Sites that worked on Safari under 1.1.4 now crash more often under 2.0 on the same phone.
