HELP WITH INSTALLATION PLEASE!

hey guys, i try to ask people at ilounge.com but they were useless! no one even brother to help me! i'm really mad because i bought a new ipod now i don't have itunes to put songs in it. this all happened when version 5 came out. one day i opened up itunes and they asked me to upgrade so i was like ok why not? when i upgraded it totally destory everything. now i can't install itunes anymore, not even the oldest version. i tried install quicktimes 7 standalone then install itunes but during the installation it just exits by it self. they left no error, no nothing and just say the installation was insuccessful, same thing as itunes 5.0.1. i tried installing my 4.0 but they keep giving me errors like OpenSCManagerA Error 0. i did read a thread about this how giving admin privillage for someting but my admin aready has privillage and it still wont install.

I have a related problem (I think!). When I downloaded iTunes 5.0, as soon as the installation completes, the message 'iTunes experienced a problem and needs to close' appeared, with the usual option to debug and send a message to Microsoft. Then when I double click the iTunes icon, the same message appears. I unistalled and reinstalled, to no avail.

Please help!

Many thanks.

I believe I have a related problem to the related problem to this post (either way, this is the one topic that seems to most closely address my problem). I was prompted to upgrade my iTunes to 5.0.x (whatever the latest and greatest version is out now). I did so, it eliminated my previous version of iTunes, and after the supposed install, nothing happened (my screen went to exactly as it was before I clicked on the install link/program). I have quick links at the bottom of my screen, and I saw an icon being created, and then disappear. Parallel to that, I saw a directory being created, and then removed in my Windows Explorer. I have no clue what is going on now. I hope that someone is able to help me.

I do have anti-virus on my computer, but it doesn't seem to make a difference as to whether it's enabled or disabled. I have Windows XP/Service Pack 2 loaded. Not sure what else I might need. It's weird - I've never seen a program just stop in the middle of installation, and undo everything it has done. I have emptied out my Temp directory, and that didn't do anything. Basically, I've done all I know to do - I'm hoping someone out there has the answer I'm looking for. Like another poster said, I have numerous music files that I've paid for, and now I can't listen to. If anyone has an answer for me, that would be most appreciated. Thanks...

hi Cuong Tang!

hey, ya when i tried to install it did make an icon and a directory but after the "regeristing product information" everything just disappear.

okay ... i've been calling this problem "the lady vanishes". there's three techniques here which seem to be able to get people past it:

keep us posted on your progress. (toonz has been field-testing another procedure that might also work against this, so we've got options even if this doesn't work.)

hi Noel!

A related query - how can I transfer the contents of my iPod to the new version of iTunes (I was loading it onto a different PC) and maintain the same playlists on the new iTunes as I have on the iPod?? These were painstakingly created!!

here's a good general reference on the topic of moving computers:

hi Cuong Than!

hey i think i should just go back to 4.9. but i have this error "OpenSCManagerA Error 0" during publishing product information.

i'm getting pretty confident now that the same underlying problem with some XP installations that produces the "vanishing installation" on 5.0x causes the "=0" on 4.9 installs.

here's a link through to our six standard techniques for getting past the "=0" (scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the relevant post in the thread):

it keeps telling me to reinstaling itunes software. after that i tried reparing it but it wont work and tried to UNINSTALL and it wont uninstall...

yuck. did the initial error message asking you to reinstall begin: "the software required for communicating ..."?

are you getting an error message on the uninstall? if so, which one? if no error message, could you describe the way in which the uninstall is failing?

hi Nick!

how can get the music back into my itunes music folder, still using the original playlists. is it possible?

are you currently running 5.0x? if so, first see these references:

Buegie, "Playlists disappear when upgrading to itunes 5.0" #1, 11:33am Sep 8, 2005 CDT

Buegie, "itunes library trouble...help!" #1, 01:11pm Sep 10, 2005 CDT

if you're currently back at 4.x, there's a different trick that we can try.

keep us posted.
