When I plug in the USB cable that came with IDAX100 unit I get an error message saying, "USB error"

I tried the Hi Speed Connection cable KCE-422i it does play music but does not support charging.

I called Alpine Tech support they told me the IDAX100 does not support charging for the iPhone 3G via the KCE-422i or the black usb cable which comes with the unit. Apparently you can only play music with KCE-422i.

I was at a car stereo store this weekend to pick put a new stereo since my FM transmitter I bought with the 3G was terrible.

I looked at the X100. Fell in love with interface. However I asked to plug the 3G into the cable to see if it would work. Music worked great, but no charge. I then looked at the X200. Plugged into the USB standard cable and it works great! Very happy with this new unit in my car!. Really love the fact that I can still use Pandora Radio service while hooked into the USB cable. Cheap Mans XM Radio!..

You might want to entertain the X200 as an alternative. Of course if Alpine can get the X100 to support the phone, I can sell you my X200!

CORRECTION TO MY PREVIOUS POST:

Went to the store today after reading some of the post here. It seemed to me if the X200 worked then the X100 should work. I went in and asked if I could try my cable on the X100. The gentleman who helped me told me they had no X100 open, but just the X001's.

Ends up this weekend I was trying the X001, which did not charge the 3G. I went ahead and swapped the X200 I purchased for the X100. They took about 30 minutes to swap out and it works like a champ. The 3G charges, controls the itunes library and still allows me to use the phone functions such as Pandora. Also the cover art appears on the screen. THe XM interface is also very nicely done as well. Going in Thursday to have them hook up a RCA mini 3.5 jack so I can watch the 3G videos and hear through the stereo.

For anyone interested im about to make my own lead for the alpine x300 that WILL play and both charge from the 422i lead. Its very simple and costs about £20 to make.

Im away for the weekend so will be making it when i get back. I Have all the pinouts and can supply a simple diagram of how to do it.

Basically Alpine have not included the 5V usb charge line in the cable which is required....shame on them!

Get in touch if you need any help!

I have an Alpine iDA-X300. It does NOT recharge the iPhone. It does play and interface normally through the head unit.

I called alpine they said "Our engineers are aware that the alpine iDA-x300 does not charge the iPhone 3g and they are working on it.

I asked him if they are coming out with a new cable that uses different pins. He wouldn't tell me what they are working on, just that I should call back in a couple of weeks for a solution.

There doesn't appear to be any quick and easy way to hack the cable. I hope alpine will provide a solution for this. Otherwise I will be purchasing the x200 or x100, but not the x001, I hate the fact that you can't turn the navigation wheel all the way around.

I recommend NOT getting the X200 but instead go for the X100. My X200 would drop out for 1/2 second or so starting about 20 minutes after I plugged in my iPhone 3G. Thereafter it would drop out (1/2 second of no sound then picking up the song again) about every 2-3 minutes. Another poster on another forum also experienced this problem with his X200. AND the X200 demo stereo in the store exhibited this behavior while the X100 played for over 30 minutes without a single problem before I pulled my iPhone and traded in for the X100.

I have just bought the Alpine IDA-x100 with the bluetooth adapter.
I have managed to get my 1st generation iphone to connect via bluetooth to the unit but I am unable to connect it via the usb cable to play music as people state they have.
When I use the black cable supplied with the head unit I get "No USB Device" and when I use the white Iphone cable I get "USB Error".

Can anyone please advise if there is a fix to this?

Per this post, in this thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7703097#7703097

You can't use the USB cable with the supplied Apple iPhone cable, use the USB cable to iPod adapter that was included with the head unit(at least, with my IDA-X001).
THAT cable works. The iPhone says it's not supported but ignore the message and everything works fine.
