I don't believe the Canons sold in the US support disk printing. There are none listed on the Canon US site.

Yes and No.... see ebay Item number: 220258575396.

The CD/DVD trays are available but it requires some searching and so is the firmware. I happen to own an ip3000 which I found at Fry's / Outpost.com (very cheap $39.95 plus $15 for the tray on ebay and it does a Great job).

I'm referring to regular channels for obtaining a Canon printer which can print on disks, i.e. Canon or regular dealers. There was an article a while back describing why Canon did not offer that feature (even though it was built in and only needed the carrier and possibly some software updates. Don't remember why the US was restricted. It's nice to know that the accessory is available for existing printers. I might have purchased a Canon instead of the Epson but the new R280 really is very nice and a lot better than the R200.

Thanks for the info.

I did indeed purchase this printer through regular retail channels at Fry's Electronics (Outpost.com) whom I believe is regular canon dealer for many of these products.

My objective was to stay under $50 (non-refurb) when looking for a canon printer with all the above features (and more) and this was the only way to meet these objectives that I was able to find at the time.

I've had this printer now about 18 months. However the CD tray is rarely purchased thru regular retail outlets in the US; as you pointed out above. But for $15 more for the CD/DVD tray only it's a great added feature!.... even if it isn't thru traditional / regular channels; the printer itself is. (Plus there's much more in terms of overall printing than just printing on CD's or DVD's)

Don't quote me on this but the instructions for the driver/s come with the tray if I'm not mistaken, one must enable these drivers which involves 4 or 5 steps....

got the hp photosmart 5630 printer with dvd/cd printing - the printer is mac compatible but the software that came with it (labeling software) is not!
bought your recommended discus but still cannot manage to get the whole picture i am using on it - it is not centered at all
just tried a different size from the layout menu of discus and it printed a sliver of the image i am using.
pulling my hair out!
the link you sent me of your photos on dvd makes me jealous!!!

i am using an 'office depot' brand of white printable dvd and do not know the exact dimensions (inner and outer) of it.
i guess the next thing i will try is a verbatim dvd (or other name brand that is listed in the discus layout)

thx for your help

Changing media won't help your position problem. There can be SLIGHT differences in how close to the center of the disc is printable, but that sort of difference won't affect " but still cannot manage to get the whole picture i am using on it".
