iPhone 3G LAGGY!

Having the same issue. Its particularly obvious when opening contacts. Any serious wonks out there with ideas?

I'm actually having the same problem, but with the original iPhone with upgraded firmware. I don't think it's the phone hardware that's causing the problem and it's really tweaking me off, if you catch my meaning. Heck, sometimes sending a quick text message takes minutes because the keyboard is so laggy!

There has to be more folks having this issue.

Count me in on the laggy problem..........but I think I figured it out. I set PUSH to off and FETCH to 30 minutes. This seems to help a little. BTW if I go to the Contacts icon it's always laggy regardless of what I do. Only the contacts in the phone icon improve... for me.

Looks like a 2.1 update is just around the corner to fix this.

I had same problem but read on another thread that soft reset (from home screen hold down both the home button and off/lock button until red slider appears, without releasing both buttons slide to off and release when Apple logo appears). Apparently this clears down any rogue apps causing memory problems and has certainly cured the lag that appeared in Contacts either from Home screen or via Phone.

I've turned off push/fetch and location services and am still having problems with the lag.

And I thought I was the only one. I have not installed any apps yet the 3G still freezes. I went to hit the reply button in an email today and it just stayed blue for over a minute and then the typing was so unresponsive - a word per minute rate of 3! Contacts also tends to freeze/stall for seconds at a time, especially when clicking at the top to get the search box to appear.
Also, has anyone else noticed that the search in Contacts only searches certain fields. For example it DOES NOT include the nickname field in the search. I am happy however about the fact they added the address book on the home screen so I don't have to click 4 times. Now if only I could create shortcuts to put the on/off switch for 3G, WiFi and BlueTooth on the the home screen so I could power them quickly without having to go through 3 pages deep.

It is obviously a problem with the new 2.0 software. It is happening with 3g iphones and first gen iphones running 2.0. I'm sure apple is aware of this and is working on a fix for 2.0.1.

I found out something very interesting about this lag issue. I had it too and had ActiveSync with Exchange. Once I got rid of that and went to using MobileMe instead the lag in my phone completely went away. I am curious- do you others with a lag use Exchange Server?

As to MobileMe, once they got the kinks worked out it is working fantastic and I like it much more than Exchange.

I'm definitely having the same problem.

When I select the SMS app, it takes up to 5 seconds before I can even see the list of text messages.

It's a bit of a wait sometimes when I click in the box before the keyboard appears.

GBH, no I do not use Exchange Server or ActiveSync.

The only email I use it with is my personal Yahoo account.

The only other thing that I thought it might be is the size of my contact list (it has 700+ in it).

I've seen at least two other threads out here and they seem to point to the 2.0 software.

I'm still stumped.

My contact list is 2,400, large, but it is not causing a lag now. I really think it was a problem with Exchange Server that somehow slowed my iphone down.

There is definitly a problem with the Contacts App on iPhone OS X 2.0. I have a 1st gen iPhone running on v2.0 and have just upgraded to an iPhone 3G and it is the same problem on both devices.

Some people might also notice that 'Contacts' actually crashes when you press the Home button. Instead of gracefully transitioning back to the Home Screen as a normal App would do, it disappears almost instantly, which usually happens when an App crashes. Also, if I Sync with iTunes, open and close Contacts (doing absolutely nothing else) then re-sync with my Mac, iTunes asks if I want to submit crash information. Bear in mind this alert only appears when an App crashes, and all I used since the last sync was Contacts, so I guess Apple will be aware of the problem because they'll be getting tons of Crash Reports.

I have a definite lag on my Contacts, and I only have 108 in there.

I have mobile me. But i still have major lag. Sorry to destroy your theory. But most of 2.0 software lags for some reason.

I have 33 contacts and also experience the lag.
