Maximum number of apps on iphone? (home screens not memory)
Is there a maximum number of apps that the iphone can install? I'm not referring to available memory, but actual space where they "live" in the phone. In other words, you can fill up to 7 pages, or however many pages, of icons. So if I have more apps purchased & downloaded from the app store than the 7 page capacity, will they install? If so, where? Are the apps accessible any where else within the phone other than the home screens?
I usually have to clear most/all of them out via SSH to get the phone to boot. Perhaps I'm not "resetting" it right.. is the reboot command you speak of simply "reboot"? I've tried just about everything, and I'm sure I'll end up locked up again at some point and be looking for something new to try lol.
I understand that you can fill up 9 pages, but realistically i think this number is quite lower. I have had my iphone crash and freeze many times installing apps with only 5-7 pages of apps. i have been trying to fill up 9 but after about 5 pages the installation process is ridiculously slow and sometimes results in the aforementioned freezing. which requires a system restore.
why do i want 9 pages of apps? well, mostly because i can. and i like apps, and even if i dont like an app i usually leave it so i can see if any updates are made. since i am on my 5th factory restore right now i think i will limit my apps from here on.
I installed firmware 1.2 and iTunes 8 and before that I was going back to factory 6 times a week. Now I can install ALL my apps and no more bricking. I have over 100 apps. My 9 pages are filled due to the way I have things organized. Some Home Pages are not full. I wish I had more. Even with all these apps, it takes 60 seconds to back up with this new upgraded software. WOW! Now I need to have the Home Page limit moved to about 20 pages and allow me to put Headings on each page ("Utilities", "Financial", "Word Smithing", "Remotes", "Not Used Apple Apps" etc.) It would also be nice to be able to remove or hide some of the stock apple apps, like Weather, iTunes, Clock, etc. I've not used them yet.
I'm guessing you mean firmware 2.1. Either way I'm glad to hear this - I've restored me iPhone 3G running firmware 2.0.2 about 3 times today. After reading a bunch of these forums I'm highly leaning towards the likeliness that my boot screen hangs have been caused by a 'max number of apps' limit of sorts. And I'm not even close to filling out the 9 pages allowed - only 4 or so. But it locked up the first time as I installed a new app, the second time as I was syncing some app updates, and the third time as I installed an app update from the phone.
Here's to hoping that tomorrow's patch fixes this like you say. Until then, I'm only syncing half of my apps this time around with this restore.
This is really sad, when I buy an App and can't find it because I have too many other Apps on my phone. So now that I've deleted 8 free Apps to make room for a paid App, I guess that's it. I'm full and if I'm happy with all the Apps I have now there is no reason to go back to the App store because I'm at the limit Apple has given me.
Just downloaded google earth and discovered the 9 screen limit.
Also I would like to be able to navigate in a circle, ie 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 and back to 1 rather than 9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1.
I was about to go on a spending spree, as my apps seem to be taking up so little space 😉
Just so you know (and perhaps you know this by now), one of the updates offered a new feature where you click and hold the home button for a bit longer than a click, and it motors you back to the first page.
I am maxed out at the full 9 screens and all that flipping to get back to page one (where the big stuff is) just got a lot easier!
I'm sorry but I just don't see how you can possibly fill up he entire 9 pages. There aren't 144 (or what ever) apps worth the space on my iPhone. You HAVE to have multiple apps that do the same thing, there just aren't this many worth while apps in the store. How many RSS readers do you need? Do you play Crash Kart, Sim City, Fieldrunners, Tap Defense, Bejeweled 2, Texas Hold 'Em, and the other probably dozens of games you have every single day? Surely you can learn to manage your space.
I am seemingly always on my iPhone doing something when ever I have a wait or am not doing something, and I haven't found 144 apps worth having yet. I don't even have 144 applications on my computer, so I don't see how it's possible to need that many on the iPhone. Especially when it gets loaded up and starts to run poorly with lots of apps.
