Screen shots on the iphone?

If so, it would be REALLY nice to post those in this forum to lay to rest the debate and have something to point to when the nay-sayers keep harping that it doesn't work without cell towers.

Yes indeed! Hold down the Home button and tap the Sleep/Power button. The iPhone will capture a screen shot of whatever is on the display, and save in the Camera Roll, just as if you had taken a photo.

I tried both trackthing and g-spot and i was able to get the gps to give me coordinates in the middle if the GOM. I took snapshots of the lat/lon and when i got into wi-fi, i punched them into maps and there i was.

There's a recent article posted at arstechnica about using the GPS without a network connection. You should be able to cache your map data while inside the rig using WiFi, then go out on deck, connect to the GPS satellites, and see where you are with the Map app. Of course, you know where you are...

How big are the tides in GOM? Does Trackthing show your altitude rising/falling as the tide goes in and out?

Here are the snapshots taken offshore with NO wi-fi or cellular signal and I was able to get a gps fix.

You need to find a web site to host those, like photobucket or something.

In photobucket, there is a little "Direct Link" button, click that and it copies the link to your clip board, and you can then paste into the Forum.

Won't work in the iphone, you need to do it at the computer.

Cool.

Keying that into Google Earth as "28.437660, -89.080088" (without quotes) shows absolutely nothing there.

This pretty much lays to rest the A-GPS argument.

Here is motion x. taken from the same spot in the GOM. this program works better than the other 2 posted earlier and locked in much quicker.
