Can I download my home-made MPGE-4 videos to iphone?

I wonder whether I can download any MPGE4 video to itunes and then upload to my 3G iphone? We love making video clips of our lifes and we would love to show the videos to other by my iphone as well.

I tried to drag the MPGE 4 clip to both itunes and my iphone, there messages keep telling me that I cant see MPGE 4 by my iphone. Is it true? :[

From the users guide:

The following video file formats are supported by iPhone:
H.264 (Baseline Profile Level 3.0)
MPEG-4 (Simple Profile)

Once you get them in iTunes, there is a menu choice to convert them to iPhone compatible versions ... (so if they did not happen to be "simple profile" whatever that is...)

If you can view these videos with iTunes but not on your iPhone, iTunes includes a conversion utility. Select the video in iTunes and under Advanced select convert selection for iPod/iPhone and then transfer the converted videos to your iPhone.

Or you just right click on the file in iTunes and select "convert for iPod"

Open iTunes. Go to "File" and click on "Add File to Library." Select your MPEG-4 video and wait a second or two for it to import. Go to "Movies." Your movie should be there. You can rename if you want by clicking on "Get Info." Plug in your iPhone to iTunes. Go to the "Video" tab, and make sure that "Sync Movies" is selected, and select your movie. Sync your iPhone. If it doesn't work, or the video will not play, go back to the "Movies" section of iTunes. Right-click the movie, and select "Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone." Wait for it to convert, then sync your iPhone again, making sure that it is still selected under the "Video" tab.

I'm pretty sure it will work the first time, since it is already compatible.

this means I should use "Add File" instead of "Import" to upload the MPGE file to the itunes. Okay, thanks! I will try this tonight. Many thanks in advance.

On my Mac is works like this...
iTunes. Library > Movies (or TV Shows). Select the video (by clicking it).
Then in menu "Advanced" I get "Convert Selection To ..." with whatever it can
be converted to.

it doesnt work! these are the steps what i have done.
Open itunes > Video/TV shows > Add to Library > [file] chose > no any response from the itunes Library.
Then I drag the .mp4 file to the iphone icon in itunes, a window pop-up and saying "....mp4" was not copied to the iphone " " because it cannot be played on this iPhone.

Please~~~ help me~~~~

after a long struggle with my itunes, i have to say that itunes 7.7 stunks. in order to sync my iphone 3G to my ibooks, i downloaded the latest version of itunes 7.7.
i tried all the ways you guys suggested here to download the mpge 4 file to itunes. but there is no any response. neither the itunes library pop-up a error message, nor the file got downloaded to itunes. i even tried the testing .mov from ipod + itunes. no response at all.
i am so disappointed of all of these. i started to question myself why i bought the iphone. i cant listen to FM Radio and cant download my mpge files to my mobile. these all i can do in my old mobile. sad~~

Did you drag the mpeg file onto the iTunes library listing, not the iPhone icon but on to the "library" header on the top left?

FM radio? People listen to FM radio?
I have my 705 songs, 5 audiobooks, 14 hours of video+pandora, aol radio and last FM on my iPhone-why would I ever want to listen to the radio?
