Cannot connect to iTunes music store

for over a week now i have not been able to get to the music store, as it loads it comes up with a sign that says "iTunes could not connect to the music store. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

I have an active internet connection! i tried all the things apple online support sugessted, none of it worked. then i went to my local apple store they were rude and didnt help me, then i called phone tech support thinking i would have one free call before i would have to pay 50 dollars, but apartely your one free call expires a month after you buy your ipod. so i have no other options unless i want to pay 50 bucks.... does anyone have any advice.

apple company is mean.

Open the "Internet
Properties" icon. Click the "Connections" tab. Then
click the "LAN Settings" button on the bottom right
of the window. In the area with the heading "Proxy
Server" there is a box. After the box, it says "Use
a proxy server for your LAN (these settings will not
apply to dial-up or VPN connections). If the box has
a check in it...

I have exactly this setting and the Music Store can be accessed in terms of the shopping care being seen, but purchase/download does not occur

I have read the entire thread and it seems there are two general impressions: 1) related to a particular ISP/IPs (mainly Rogers) or 2) Apple.

I'm running the same system for 2 years now with no problems using iTunes/iPod for 18 months with numerous purchases/downloads from iTMS. There are two changes that have occurred since the last iTMS purchase: upgrading to Windows XP Pro SP2 and upgrading iTunes to 6.0.1.

My setup:
ISP: Comcast cable (more than 4 years)
IP: no changes
Security: ZoneAlarms Pro (with iTunes fulling enabled) and Windows Security fulling disabled (with iTunes exception listed); no Norton; no McAfees
Browser: Firefox with phobos.apple.com exception (also enabled in IE)

I'm left with the conclusion that it has nothing to do with ISPs/IPs or security software -- but something wrong with iTunes 6.0.1 or possibly SP2 (but there are no problems with running iTunes, just with the iTMS connection)

When I try to make an iTMS purchase these are the screens I get:

1. Your shopping cart's contents have changed.
Either the prices or some items have changed, or items have been added or removed from another computer. Please review your shopping cart and click Buy Now. {with a Refresh button}

2. We could not complete your Music Store request. The servere was not found. There was an error in the Music Store. Please try again later.

Let me try that again:

I have exactly those settings set for "LAN Settings" (unchecked) and still the problem persist -- I can access the iTMS, make selection for purchase/download, but iTMS only gives the following messages when attempts to purchase are made:

Your shopping cart's contents have changed.
Either the prices or some items have changed, or items have been added or removed from another computer. Please review your shopping cart and click Buy Now.

I am on sympatico high speed and for the last week I have not been able to access Itunes music store. I use windows xp and I tried checking the issues discussed regarding the xp firewall and the other fixes mentioned here with no luck. I have not changed my setup or added programs since I was last able to access the itunes store. Anyone else on sympatico?

I have been having a similar problem to all the rest of you. For the last 2 weeks (that I have noticed) I have been completely unable to reach my shopping cart in iTunes. I am running Windows 2000 on an IBM Thinkpad, iTunes version 6.0.1.3. This happened after the most recent upgrade. The cart gives the infamous 502 error when clicked on. I can browse the Music Store, and it will still add albums/songs to my cart, I just can't get to the actual cart. Ridiculous- looks like Apple's servers are melting down. They can't handle the millions of people now hitting the ITMS on a regular basis. Called Apple customer service today, no help at all (the woman sounded like she'd been smoking for 80 yrs.) Sent a message to the iTunes team online, nothing yet. Here's hoping for the best. Ultimately, it's Apple's loss, not ours- we can still buy music from Amazon and such. Let us not be so slavish to the ITMS that we forget how we bought music before this. Apple really does their customers a disservice by keeping them in the dark. Bad form, Apple! PS I am in NY using Time Warner Cable...

Just following up, this is the response I got back from the iTunes team:

Thank you for contacting the iTunes Music Store.

In order to work on this issue we will need to clear you shopping cart. We'll do everything we can to help you resolve this issue. Please reply to his e-mail with your permission to clear your shopping cat. Thank you for being an iTunes Music Store customer.

Sincerely,

The iTunes Music Store Team

Apple wants to clear out the almost $1,000 in music that I have in my cart?!!?? This is not the way to do it. Guess it's back to CDs for now.

IBM Thinkpad Windows 2000 iTunes 6.0.1.3

Today's message from Apple:

Thank you for contacting the iTunes Music Store.

We are aware of the issue you have reported and our engineering crew is working to fix the items that have been affected by this problem.

The shopping cart problem has been the same with 1 to 4 albums in the shopping cart at any one time. Singles go through the purchase process just fine, the albums do not. Apple even suggested (by implication) removing the album(s) and selecting a totally different album to see if the problem was still present. It was still present.

Apple's database corrupted? Server corrupted? Multiple server delivery method corrupted? Roger's blocking of multi-server connections? Seem tremendously coincidental, especially when you see the diverse geographical nature of the problem (not just Canada) and diverse ISPs.

It's hard to envision multiple problems causing such widespread problems with the shopping cart without a single unifying cause. Apple alone? Apple with certain ISPs?

I deinstalled iTunes 6.0.13 and reinstalled the prior 5.0.x version and the shopping cart problem was still present.

This is a hugh problem (I would think for Apple) -- holiday and holiday sales.
