for over a week now i have not been able to get to the music store, as it loads it comes up with a sign that says "iTunes could not connect to the music store. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
I have an active internet connection! i tried all the things apple online support sugessted, none of it worked. then i went to my local apple store they were rude and didnt help me, then i called phone tech support thinking i would have one free call before i would have to pay 50 dollars, but apartely your one free call expires a month after you buy your ipod. so i have no other options unless i want to pay 50 bucks.... does anyone have any advice.
Hmmm most interesting ... I just checked and I am now connecting to the Music Store just fine. As one of the Rogers customers, I am hoping that this means that there was an issue with Rogers and it has been resolved. I shall continue to test throughout the day. My IP has not changed, but I can access the store and download podcasts again.
Whether or not it is Rogers, we've all had the same issues from such hosts as Times Warners, To Verizon/Stargate, to misc ip's. The issue should be solved by Apple - I find it rediculous that they don't have these forums moderated by actual Apple Techies or iTunes Admins.
Here is my situation, and why I am subject to believe it has to do with the newest version of iTunes: I was just about to purchase an album while on an older version of iTunes, when it asked me to switch to the recent 6.0+ version. So i downloaded it, and now my iTMS doesn't work...
This is getting rediculous... I've tried all of the tricks on this thread, I've tried all of the 'iTunes Help' section, and obviously my internet connection is working just fine because I am able to post here. I wish it would've just let me stick with the old version so I could happily have the two album's I was hoping to purchase from them. Their loss I guess... I'll go find another source to purchase albums. I suggest you all do the same.
My finding do not support your theory that it is related to the version of iTunes as another machine in the house has a 4.x version of iTunes and it could not access the Music Store either. (I have not checked today on that version)

Crossing fingers 🙂
I'm on Rogers in Cambridge, Ontario and since you posted that message I've had no troubles now. Problem fixed? I hope so! Coincidently, I also got replies to the emails I sent Rogers a few days ago with the standard 'we're working on it' message. Though Limewire still does not work.
I couldn't connect either. I tried everything in ITunes Service and support. When it recommended that I make sure Windows was up to date I realized Internet Explorer also was not connecting. So I started looking for the solution to that. I searched Google Groups with "IE won't connect". one of the people there advised someone to try running a program called "WinsockXPFix.exe". They said it may be a winsock problem and this program would fix the problem. It worked for me. Now both ITunes and IE are back to normal. Just put "download WinsockXPFix.exe" into Google or which ever search engine you prefer and you should be able to find it.

Tada, I can connect today, got the email back from rogers today. Here it is

I tried looking for that ip address you mention on my drivers file but it isn't on there at all!?I have used music store loads and never had a problem until this. My internet explorer is fine as is my internet access. do you have the full line for itunes and the ip addressing so that I can try and add it into the file?
try the above or what I have also done is to change a
Windows operating system file. This could cause you
problems if not done correctly.
Using Windows Explorer move to the following folder
'C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc'. In this folder is
file called 'hosts'. Open it using Wordpad.
In this file on my pc there was one long line. At the
end of this line was '127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com'.
phobos.apple.com is I believe the web address for the
music store. What '127.0.0.1 phobos.apple.com' is
doing is telling the pc to look for the web address
only on the computer rather than the internet. By
remove this section of the line and saving the
changes I can now access the music store without any
problems.
good luck

Installing the newer version (6.0 or whatever it is didn't work for me. I uses DSL. In your Internet settings there is ONE LITTLE checkbox that once you uncheck it, BING, you can connect. Here's what to try: go to Control Panel. Open the "Internet Properties" icon. Click the "Connections" tab. Then click the "LAN Settings" button on the bottom right of the window. In the area with the heading "Proxy Server" there is a box. After the box, it says "Use a proxy server for your LAN (these settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections). If the box has a check in it, it stops iTunes from being able to connect to the Music Store and the Gracenote database. If you uncheck the box and close out of Control Panel, you should now be able to connect to the Music Store and Gracenote. Apple does make it difficult sometimes to resolve issues!
