Outlook tasks CAN sync to your iPhone... I have a solution!

OK.. So we all are disgusted with Apple's lack of task synchronization with Outlook. The only glimpse of this functionality is Chapura's proposed KeyTasks, which costs $10 PER YEAR, and isnt even out yet!

HOWEVER, those who do NOT want to go under contract, or do NOT WANT TO WAIT for this release, I have an excellent solution... Granted, it's only useful on Windows as far as I know, but it definitely works seemlessly.

Here's the run down.. Todo app($10), Toodledo account(free), ToodledoSync(free).

You'll need to buy the "Todo" app from the appstore, as it is the only task app that provides any kind of sync capabilities.. (It's a very well put together app as well.. very iphone friendly with direct links in the tasks to go to a website, or to call someone, etc.)

Next, set up a free account with at http://www.toodledo.com and sync the account in Todo.

Then, go here: http://www.chromadrake.com/ChromaticDragon/software/ToodledoSyncInfo.aspx for the sync software between Toodledo and Outlook. You can set the program to periodically sync Outlook and Toodledo.

In Outlook, you should also disable the security setting in "Tools--> Trust Center--> Programmatic Access" and set the option to "NEVER warn"... Without this, every time ToodledoSync tries to sync you'd get an annoying warning message that a program is trying to access your email.

Well, that's that.... and let me just say "you're welcome" in advance!

Hi, this is a great solution and love ToDo/ToodleDo/ToodleDoSync

However, I'm having the same problem with duplicates. Appears to be only items without a due date, they are duplicated in Outlook but not on ToodleDo, nor on ToDo.

Any ideas why?

Re the earlier post about other items in tasks folder, I can't see any in Outlook Data View, but I do use a lot of follow up flags on emails and view them in the Outlook To Do list.

Running Outlook 2007 on Vista, with latest version of sync software.

Thanks for your help - and thanks to the poster of the Forum and creator of the Sync app - it's great.

I get the same error. I downloaded the interop assemblies [1] and they appeared to install correctly.

Didn't fix my error. On a repeat try I get an uncaught exception.

So it's conflicting with something, maybe the Outlook search toolbar used by Windows Search 4.0.

In any case, this app isn't an option for everyone. It's not even in beta yet, the author is clear this is early in its dev cycle.

Well, it seems as if Chapura has officially released their app in the App Store...

From what I see on their screen shots, it's no better than what we have here, except it's a one time purchase instead of Chapura's yearly subscription.

Chapura seems to have a sync button the same way as Todo, making it a manual sync of Outlook Tasks, just as we have here. They provide their own desktop sync software, and a Chapura account, leading me to believe that it's the exact same method we're using except this method here is relying on 3 entirely separate developers. However, I would say that Todo is a better app for the iPhone with integrated 'Call', 'Email', and 'Website' tasks, custom 'completed' stamps for finished tasks, and only have to pay for the initial cost.

Those are minimal benefits, but all go in favor of Todo. Unless Chapura can get automatic syncing or have the app integrate with the iPhone's 'fetch' feature, I really dont see a benefit for Chapura over Todo.

Thanks so much to the OP and the guy who created the sync tool. Great work, gentlemen 🙂

I have one question: After syncing, will the tasks that I mark as completed in Outlook disappear as they do over time with a free Toodledo account? What is great about your solution is that I might be able to view my entire history of completed tasks; the free toodledo version will only show you a week's worth of completed tasks.

I'm getting this problem with my Outlook 2003, I tried to disable the warning via your instructions but can't find this menu item... Tools/Trust Center/Programmic Access... this doesn't existing in my menu, can you please clarify this. Thank you.
