BlueAnt Supertooth 3 transfer contacts address book to 3g iphone

What is the trick to transfer your 3g iPhone contacts to the BlueAnt Supertooth 3? It always fails. It say that transfer or phone is not supported. I can't figure out how to transfer manually. Please help! Thanks in advance.

3G iPhone, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Hi Phil,

No, it is announcing them backwards - ie surname, first name. Per your experience, changing the name order in the iPhone settings menu appears to have no effect on this.

I would imagine the reason for this is that the when the contacts are uploaded, they are processed in a certain format that cannot then be changed without re-uploading them. If name order is important to you I would suggest resetting the ST3, then changing the contacts order settings on your iPhone, then re-pairing/re-uploading your contacts. You many need to try this a couple of times to find the right combination of "sort order" & "display order" (the 2 contacts options on the iPhone).

If you do try this, can you please be sure to post your results here?

Cheers, Andy

Hmmm, that's interesting. I thought that would probably work. From what you're saying though it sounds like the firmware on the ST3 is definitely picking up "surname" and putting it first... (for some strange reason)

I guess if you really want to fix it then the (admittedly bizarre) workaround would be to manually reverse the name order of each of your contacts in your contacts database that you sync with your iPhone (ie Address Book, Entourage etc). Ie, put surname in the first name field and vice versa - then resync to iphone, then re-upload contacts to the ST3. This presumably would have to work...

nb - you could easily test this on just one contact first rather than changing them all...
nb - interestingly, because in both Address Book and the iPhone you can choose which name to display first and which to sort by, manually reversing the names would actually have no other impact on your daily life other than fixing the ST3 issue?

Hmmm. Let me know if this works... I'm kind of having fun with this now.

Merry Xmas, Andy

MTM,

Did you read my posts before you posted?

To summarise, some ST3 units upload contacts first time. Others eventually upload contacts if you try enough times. Others don't upload them at all. I suggest you return your unit and swap it for another - then continue to do so until you find one that works (you may wish to take note of the build nos. as i mentioned in a previous post).

To say that fixing this will not be a priority for Apple in terms of iPhone development would be an understatement in the extreme.

Good luck.

Could the use of activesync with MS Exchange possibly play a part in whether it works or not? I have a 16gb iPhone 3G running 2.2. My contact list is via Activesync with two contact groups (work/personal). When I sync, the Blueant ST3 responds that it downloads the entire contact list (996 contacts), but does not announce the caller with incoming calls.

Does anyone with Activesync/Exchange in use have their Blueant working correctly?

I tried this - only an hour ago!! It did not work!

Incidentally, when I first connected my blueant to my 3g iphone, I had caller id. I thought it was the fact that I had already used my blueant with a sony phone previously.

Well that caller id was short-lived. It only worked for a few days. Then it was back to number id. I have since swapped Blueant units and caller id is working on the "new" device - for now! I will report to the forum if it fails 😟

I purchased a Supertooth 3 yesterday, and it worked properly first time - paired with my iPhone 3G (v2.2), uploaded contacts without a hitch. Voice dialling doesn't work of course, but it does announce the caller name (except in the format Last Name, First Name which is an annoying but minor issue). And it reconnects to the phone when I get into the car.

I guess it's just luck of the draw.

i can confirm that i was able to transfer all my contacts to BA153, but was unable to do so with build BA152. thank you for the suggestion.

despite the transfer, the unit sometimes does not announce the name but just the number. at other times, it just says "person" is calling. these are both weird behaviors, but unrelated to the transfer of phone book issue.

why iphone doesn't do voice dialing is a mystery, my 5 year old moto v551 did, funny the pre doesn't either
what i do
my garmin 360bt has a single preset for "home"
magellan gps has 3 presets
kensington car kit has 3 presets
sonyericsson ab900 had 5 or 6 presets now cancelled (announced feb 11 see engaget)
blueant which i called yesterday says the more people call the more they will consider a fix for iphone they do have an earpiece that has 8 voice activated presets

it seems presets are the work around but a stupid limitation
3gs has voice control but not reviewed yet
3.0 software isn't out to evaluate

this is just idiocy on the apple side, not to allow us to use our phone safely while driving

if manufacturers had their own built into the unit voice control , so after you suck up your contact list the voice dialing comes from the integration of the car kit( hey blueant try this), but that's fantasy, its doable and 30+million would flock to an elegant solution but there is dreaming right
anyway still searching looking, calling

Okay, after a bit of sleuthing I have figured out why some people get it work and some don't.

The earlier Supertooth 3 models have the BA152 firmware (its a sticker that you will see on the back of the device). That firmware does not allow contact transfer to the iphone 3g. If you email Blueant support, they will give you details to mail the device in to have the firmware updated to BA153 which allows contact transfer. If you have the BA153 firmware you will see that sticker on the rear of your device.

I'm glad it wasnt luck of the draw after all!
