G4 RAM Upgrate .

Your iBook (late 2004 14", is it?) only supports a single 200-pin PC2100 DDR SDRAM SO-DIMM memory module. The SO-DIMM can be up to 1GB. Max supported RAM on your model is 1.256GB, including the built-in 256MB.
Check OWC for compatible memory.

That's all the memory controller supports.

I swear I went to a website of someone who modified the memory controller to accept 4GB. I think its possible for the MDD's to support theoretically 4GB memory, just that the memory controller needs to be disassembled and the proper Assembly language statements need to be programmed in there to recognize the other 2GB. Possible? Maybe.. has anyone ever done it? According to the website I went to awhile back(can't remember the name of it!), the guy said it was 100 percent possible!

I read on a website awhile ago that one guy did reverse engineer the memory controller to accept 4GB memory. Theoretically, I believe it can be done, though its not really known as to how it can be done. My guess one would have to know PowerPC Assembly language and disassemble the memory controller code and modify it. Hardware wise would require wires to be soldered. This is only speculation, as I forgot the website.. ah... bitsandpieces.com I think thats it.

hey i just saw on your system specs it looks like you have 2 optical drives. i have a power mac g4 mdd and was wondering about adding a second dvd burner. if i have 2 optical drives, how to i eject the second drive? is it like a key combo or something?

For the 2nd optical drive, you will click on the eject icon, found in the upper right corner. Or, you can get a program called Ardiem:

With this program, it will allow you to eject either the main optical drive and or slave drive.

What MDD do you have?

Or the Alt-Eject key combo.

Just a warning, any compatible DVD drives you can purchase from new now, will require OSX 10.4.x.

Something like the Pioneer -DVR-112 or later. Pioneer has a great site for picking and choosing compatible optical drives.
