slow response when typing

when typing on iPhone I tap the letters and they don't come up until after I tap several letters so I have to continually stop and wait for the letters to catch up. It's so slow it makes typing out email a waste. Now here is the odd thing that makes me wonder what could be causing this: I had an original iPhone, did it on that one; got the new iPhone 16g, does it on this one too. I can be on the edge, on my wifi, other's wifi. Is it a network thing ? It's weird and annoying.

Well, it's not an APP, like the ones you download now. It is the email and text messaging that is within Apple's iPhone standard services.

I can close out, or delete, but I still get the problem. Again, it's intermittent at least, but it is annoying when it happens.

On my 8G (first-gen) it was continual. That was awful! At least it's somewhat improved on the 16G.

I know exactly what you are talking about! It's very annoying. I found this video on YouTube that shows exactly what it's doing.

I Just checked for updates and there is a 2.0.1 iPhone update available. I'm going to get it and hope that it fixes these issues and hope it doesn't break something else.

That's great someone put up a video showing the problem. Yup, that's what it does! Lags behind to where you're just waiting for the letters to type.

Exactly it!

My iTunes does not say that there is an update. Where are you getting the update already? I doubt that Apple, however, has fixed this problem already, although they did have clear from the 2.0 update. Mine started then with the first-generation iphone. I was hoping to rid myself of that issue with the new 16G, but nope....still an issue.

Someone else posted that the update only addressed some security issues. I could not find anywhere that layed out exactly what this fixed.
To get the update, you will have to open iTunes with your phone attached and then go to the Summary page and click the "Check for Updates" button. Otherwise you will have to wait for it to check on its regular schedule.

I finally got the update. I plug my iPhone in every night but it wasn't picking up the update for some reason, probably the same reason why NOW it doesn't even update with my iTunes. I put another post up here regarding that issue. But talk about frustrating! My old phone updated great! But the new phone doesn't EVEN update my music at all. I can check and uncheck and choose different options and nothing works. It won't put my music on iPhone. 😟
Hopefully, the other post will get answered.

I just spoke with an Apple Support Rep. since I have the same issues on my Gen 1 iphone (after upgrading to 2.0) and on the new 3G Iphone.

The rep thinks its a corrupt 2.0 update or possibly a corrupt hardware.
Strange that so many people had the same updates with a corrupt file. 🙂 nonetheless, its not an update that you do, rather a full RESTORE. But before you do this make sure you backup your photos and your contacts, as it will delete it. Yeah, I lost all most contacts on my iphone when I updated to 2.0, *****!

Do a full restore and not a restore from your backups.
Instructions are here >>> (Updated URL)

Will let you know if this worked or not.
Good luck!!!!

Update on 2.0.1. I said I would post back here if the slow typing returned and it has returned. Oddly, before, I would powercycle the iPhone and this would resolve the issue, but I remember someone saying that if they press the home button and go back to typing that it is resolved. I just did this and the slow typing is not an issue now. I'm ok with that as long as I don't lose anything by going to the home page.

I know, it's VERY frustrating. I actually stopped texting and sending emails via my iphone, which ***** because I loved having that capability, but it just takes WAY too long. It's EXACTLY like the video that someone linked to in this thread. You type in 8 letters, they don't show up and of course then you can't type anymore as you just have to wait, and then very, VERY slowly one letter at a time begins to pop up while you wait: A .......... P ............. P.......... L............E ............
N ..........E............E..........D..........S.......... T..........O.......... F..........I..........X.......... T..........H..........I..........S...........

And if you see a wrong letter come up that you've typed and you try to delete, hit the X, and watch what happens. One time it actually got stuck and deleted my entire letter (automatically LOL) that I had worked on for an HOUR! LOL That was enough to make me want to throw the iphone right out the window. Needless to say, I didn't bother to try and retype the email I was sending! LOL
