iPhone wifi not working

Ok so as of two days ago, my iphone has had major difficulties finding wifi networks, let alone connecting onto any of them. I live in an apartment complex and normally my iPhone shows a list of around 20 different networks, but now my phone sees none of them. I can even lay my phone on top of my router, and still nothing. Earlier today I passed by an Apple store, and my phone couldn't even pickup the free wifi there. I have already tried resetting my network settings to default on my iPhone, restored my iPhone, and still nothing.

Anybody else having this problem?

Thanks in advance.

I have an original iPhone. At some point within a week ago I noticed 2 things. 1: The phone does not wake from sleep mode (after about 5 minutes) for incoming texts or calls and 2: I have no wifi.

Restoring to factory defaults did not fix anything.
Phone is not and has never been jail broken.
Phone is out of the warranty period.
Phone does answer texts and calls in sleep mode only when connected to a power source.
The battery does seem to be suddenly dying rather fast.
In the wifi settings the "wheel" next to choose a network just spins, nothing else. (Yes, there is a valid signal where I am, my laptop connects just fine. The iPhone does not "see" any wifi networks.)

My last ditch guess at a fix is replacing the battery in hopes that this may have something to do with my problem.... but I doubt it.

I can't seem to find any solution except to buy a new phone. I was hoping I would not have to do this. I'll be taking the phone to a genius bar tomorrow in hopes there is something they can do. I was wondering if anyone else has had these issues and if you were able to resolve it? In reading all of the posts above, it sounds like I will be passing on a new iPod touch/phone to my wife after Apple releases the 3rd generation iPhone in a few weeks (hopefully)...

Hi,

I am having the same issues as mentioned above: not detecting wifi signal, missing calls and text messages, weakened battery life, etc. Judging from the dates of the posts, it seems people still aren't finding a correct solution. (However if I'm wrong, can you please tell me what it is?)

Personally, I'm a little frustrated with Apple's approach to their customers and product support. Isn't this an Apple Forum? Isn't there a technician who is supposed to respond to these posts with a solution, diagnosis, or at least a reassurance that its being worked on?

I guess its off to the Apple store to replace my iPhone again.

OK dudes I have been so frustrated with this wifi problem and have been searching the forums for days. I reset my iphone a million times, tried reconfiguring my router, rebooting my router etc. Believe me i tried a million tips on these forums. I read about the firmware disabling something that doesn't let the wifi antenna over heat. I did notice my iphone warmed up after extended use of wifi. Ok So all I did was put my iphone in the freezer for about 10 min as a last resort took it out and searched for my ssid it not only found it but when I went on to safari instead of switching to edge it loaded the page a la wifi speed. Only thing is once it heats up it turns to edge agains anybody have any more info on this? Can someone verify if the freezer trick works on yours?

My wifi is not working at all. I tried everything reboot, resetting upgrade, downgrade as well left it for a night in the freezer but nothing works. After consulting several people it looks like it is the wifi chip that just crashes. So the only way out is changing the iphone with Apple or open the phone and change the Marvel wifi chip which might be upgrade with the next generation of iphones anyway.

Wifi in my iPhone 3G was not detecting any connections for some time.. I did upgraded the firmware to 2.1.1 but not certain when exactly started having this problem. Re-installing the firmware did not help. As the device still in the warranty, I brought it up at the Genius bar yesterday and a guy at the booth to take a look. He re-installed the firmware once again and see that did not help. He also did some "liquid damage" check and told me the problem is probably the anntena. I got the device replaced with the brand new one, restored the backup and everything is fine now. So if your phone is still in the warrranty, dont waste time struggling to find what the problem is, - go to apple store and they will give you a new phone.
