No WIFI After 2.0.1 Updates

I started a new thread about this issue not realizing this one had been started.

I ended up having to take the phone in to apple to get it replaced. Took about 20 min. at the apple store.

Here is a screen shot of the issue to clarify what's happening.



As you can see, I have pretty bad reception at home and only get edge, so yo can see why this would be a problem for me 🙂

If you have a 1st gen you will need to search for iphone1,2 2.0_5A347Restore.ipsw
If you have the 3G then you need iphone2,xxxxxx blah

Actually, the version numbers above aren't quite right.

For a 1st gen you will need iPhone1,1 2.0_5A347Restore.ipsw

For a 3G you will need iPhone1,2 2.0_5A347Restore.ipsw

Which you should be able to find right in your User/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates folder (if you're on a Mac; sorry don't know about Windows PCs).

Last but not least, from what I've read at other forums, you can't restore to an older firmware, another reason why I'm holding out on 2.0 for the moment.

How did you manage to get the screenshot into your post???

Holding down the home button and press the power switch on the top of the touch/iphone. Nice little feature.

Then I uploaded it to my flickr page and used the html image tag to post it here.

Just as an update...
I brought my beloved phone back to T-mobile (in The Netherlands) They took my info, wrapped it up in plastic and told me that I will have to wait for a response back from the repair center. They said it could take 2-3 weeks... (I am desperate without my iphone. Currently I had to go back to using my HTC Touch Cruise but it is just not the same.)

Ah, flickr! Très cool! (At least I knew how to take a screenshot of the iPhone already...)

I had the same type of problem as some, where I could select a wifi network and my wifi area was not grayed out. However, I did not have any wifi access, as I could not access iTunes, update mail, weather, or surf safari. I called Apple support and after resetting all the network settings and the phone to no avail, the thing that worked for me was to reset my home router. I just powered it off for 30 seconds and when it came back up, my iPhone was working correctly again. Both my husband's and my phone were having the same problem and this trick fixed it. Apple support also suggested that we update our router firmware too.

Same here. Crashed 2.0.1 update, restore, then No Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Unavailable with both buttons greyed. My battery life is now less than a day in standby, misses rings, and voicemails take hours to show up. This was not a hacked phone.

I wonder how many people like me had their wifi disabled before they ran the update? Could be the common factor.

I paid the $29 to have a new unit shipped to me overnight. You then put the old body into the box and send it back. Apple was very easy going about this.

I just got my phone back from T-mobile in The Netherlands (after they had it for 2 weeks for repair) They replaced the phone (I do not know if it was refurbished or new) but now I have a red dot on my screen when the surrounding area is black. (I think this is called a dead pixel). In any case my experience with T-mobile has been less then easy and I really do not want to have my phone in the repair center again (This would last another 2 weeks and I don't even know if they would consider this a repair or not) So unfortunately I will live with the fault on my screen. I wish that the service in The Netherlands was just as good as the service in the States.

If I were you, I would not "live with" such a fault, which is a bona-fide defect. I would suggest your returning it to T-mobile and get a replacement, even if it would take you another 2 weeks. Better that than living with such a phone, especially since who knows what else can go wrong if it's already defective... 😟
