Carrier settings update won't install

After I click install I get the following message:

"iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. An unknown error occured (0xE8000001)."

Carrier is SoftBank, Japan.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.4), iPhone 3G, 2.0.1 (SoftBank, japan)

I didn't want to reset my network settings and lose the wifi and bluetooth pairings, so I tried another approach:

- Turn on Airplane Mode, wait until the wireless shuts off (the "Carrier" option will also disappear under Settings)

- Sync with iTunes; on my Mac, it didn't ask to update carrier settings

- Once that sync is complete, turn off Airplane Mode

- The next few syncs didn't ask to update the carrier settings either

I hope this helps some others!

Ciao.

Sorry to hear that my advise didn't really help you!

Well, in your case, I'd recommend you to wait until this situation is fixed... If you notice that it's taking too long, then you should contact your carrier as soon as possible!

By the way, is this problem also affecting your connections, or not? If positive, contact your carrier!

Regards,
Francisco
