Iphone 3G no service

Hi all, I got my iphone 3G, registered with itunes and right away the phone worked, it worked all day perfectly. while driving home i noticed i had 'no service' - i restored from itunes, installed update 2.0.1 and called my phone company 02.

Can anyone give me any ideas as to why this would happen? Could the phones IMEI be blocked ?

Same problem started for me on Saturday on my way into Apple store for service on my iMac G5. While there the Genius check phone and suggested restoring as new phone which I did to no avail.
Phone calls to Apple and ATT on Sunday resulted in suggestion to bring phone in for service. And a confirmation from ATT that NY region had 3G data connectivity issues.
Got to Apple store and my SIM card was transferred to working test unit and showed No Service. Genius directed me to ATT store around the corner to get new SIM card. Problem Solved.
I should mention that the SIM that came with the phone was replaced. Maybe an issue with those cards.

With respect it's not the same problem. If a particular phone doesn't work with a SIM or the particular phone has a fault then this would explain this problem.

I get reception everywhere I go, it's not 3G everywhere, but in the UK O2 have approx 80% coverage (which I believe is 80% of the population, not 80% of the country).

my Rogers iphone :
rattles when shaken up and down, not left to right or other axis.
- called apple and rogers, new phone replacement on the way - no cost, no questions - odd
- so the hundreds of rattle complaints seem to have raised apple awareness.
was going to exchange the usb power thingie, but I'll wait to see if the new phone has the "safe" one in the box
super laggy before 2.1 update, fine now
not jailbroken (i know, I'll get to it), so all apps are stock or app store - and updated
as of noon today, phone was great as a phone.
went into a mall to see a client, came out to make a call - no service.
googled first:
did the hard reset, did the Settings/General/Reset/Reset Network Settings, powered off and ejected sim, airplane mode on/off : nothing worked
Checked Settings/Carrier and interestingly, Rogers appears.
- but when you try to select it, the pop up Restricted Network... choose a different network error appears

So, I called Rogers

Now then, I have a new phone arriving to replace this one because of the rattle, which is nice, because tomorrow I will have a replacement iphone anyway - hopefully working out of the box.
But in the meantime, the rattle doesn't prevent calls as far as I know as the phone has worked a week whilst rattling.
So I thought maybe they disabled my "old" and still in use phone, and they replied it is active and they "see it" on the network. So it appears to either be Sim related or iPhone itself.
Rogers also has no idea about the pop up error or what it could mean for trouble shooting on their end - so they say.

My sim card's tray by the way has the phone's serial and IMEI number on it
The sim starts with 89302 xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx U0.2
Maybe it's a bad batch of sim cards?

at least the wifi, ipod and apps still work

anything this pretty must be too good to be true.

So my first iPhone has a rattle when shaken vertically.
I called Apple and Rogers and they sent me a replacement phone.
While waiting for this to arrive I get the No Service message mid day after using the phone all morning. I tried everything above, and even did a full clean restore of the phone without a backup overlay and nothing worked.

The replacement phone for the rattle arrived today, and it came with a SIM card.
Rogers said I should use my old one, interesting they'd give me a new one.

The card is a different batch :
original : 89302 XXXX 00524 XXXXX
new 89302 same 00759 different

I'm omitting certain numbers for obvious reasons but the first two groups of 5 digits are identical, but the last 2 groups of 5 digits are different.

This new card however allows BOTH phones to have Service on Cell, Edge and 3G

It appears then that the SIM card is the fault.
I'll call rogers now with the findings,
But if you have No Service and resets fail to solve the issue, it's likely the SIM card is bad.

Unfortunately my replacement phone also has the rattle only a bit quieter but rattles on all four axis. I'll see if they'll swap this out too. sigh so close.....

This is the deal!
starting that you are using an APPLE gadget, already bad! then it does not matter if you are using TURBO SIM, original ATT or any other carrier, the problem with ""NO SERVICE"" or SEARCHING"" is really a software problem, I have fixed mine by RESETTING back to 2.01 firmware, I have not had any problems ever since.
Try it out and in case you have JAILBRAKE your phone... THINK TWICE, you may block the phone!!! or you will just have to JAILBRAKE IT AGAIN.
VOILA, it should work.
Good luck all,
