chmod 740 folders appearing

If anyone can help with this, please do.

We have a user on a G5 tower, 10.4.11, that has chmod 740 folders appearing on his machine.

They seem to correspond with Quark and/or Photoshop files.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

the topmost folder is generally named "chmod 740"

Holy cowabunga, something really ammis here, do you have an external backup drive to boot from?

Might even get HexEdit to try to look at a file or two to see what is in them for clues as to what is doing it, right now it looks like something is making a left turn when it sould be turning right!

Well, I'd know better if I could have a set to look at, but my guess is that it's a component that is supposed to be writing to a file/folder, but creating a file/folder instead, tougher guess as to whether that would be the OS or an Application, but since you don't have tons of them, I'm gonna guess some Application has a simple bit or two messed up.
