IPOD Classic immediately and automatically disconnects !!

OK this has to be some crap on Apples side, doesn't it? This unit was working fine just 2 days ago and I have done nothing to this computer or the IPOD.I plug it in and it automatically ejects it. I can not access my IPOD classic with my mac nor can I charge it. Way screwed up man. It was asking me to update it for some time now but I did not because others in this forum were having problems with the update and many said to avoid it. I have done nothing since the last time I used it. What on earth could cause this and how can I get my IPOD back W/O having to reset and lose everything.

Well so far what i've found helpful is that I'm not the only one!!! My 80GB also disconnects after like a minute. It worked fine before. I have new itunes too. My toshiba laptop runs on vista and it's only 2 months old. it won't work on my roommates laptop either she has a compaq and has windows xp. by once trying to restore i reset and deleted everything on my ipod. and well since i can't connect to itunes, i can't sync, i therefore have no music on my ipod.
please help

Having same problem with 160GB iPod Classic. Tried everything mentioned in forum, but to no avail. iPod will still charge, and will reconnect and properly sync if I manually click "sync."

Also, will show music that has been sync'd, but will only display in grey and not allow me to play anything on the iPod. REALLY miss this feature.

Running iTunes 8.1.1.

I don't understand why it states this topic is "answered"....
