Hope it fixes the GPS and EMAIL issues. How does one back up?

MBP 2.4 Glossy, 2.4 matte, iPhone 3G (wow, what a device), Mac OS X (10.5.4), 1 BAR on 3G=139K+, 1 bar gets a bad rap!!!

I just added the update and no luck in fixing my 3G problem, at least at home. Phone went from full bars and Edge to "No Service" then after about a minute, 3G and only 1 bar. I hope it works better on the road... I had it lose service for 10 minutes twice while my friend's 3G phone was at full service so I pretty much haven't used the 3G on this phone. I love the iPhone in general but am thinking I should have stuck with my original one.

Hello,

Makes sense. However Safari is more stable, and apps do load quicker (or its my imigination).

I would guess that no 3G resolution until:

1. They figure out the problem
2. Fix the problem
3. Test it... world wide (with all carriers)
4. Publish it.

That is going to take some time to do all the above.

And it would be a 2.1 or a 2.2 upgrade... not a three digit number like 2.0.2, or 2.0.3. This is according to Apple's web site on release numbers and what they mean. This problem is more than a "bug" fix.

OK, my testmyiphone.com results at my office location today:

3G 1.42MBp/s 174KB/s

Edge .22MBp/s 27KB/s

WiFi 1.40 MBp/s 170KB/s

The 3G number has improved tremendously since the 2.0 days.

Doug Clements,

Actually, fixes for reception issues would be a third number change. In fact I would recommend those experiencing reception issues to try 2.0.2. Already some posters have reported an improvement for them on Apple Discussions.

The second number would be for new features, and may also include bug fixes, but would primarily be for new features.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.

here are two resources I used for finding AT&T towers in the US:

http://www.atttowers.com/towers/welcome.do (you'll need to register)

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=111565430708036480542.00045340c af5a2c341c1f (sorted by zip code, you'll need to click click click until you get to your zip code)

So take a look at this....

What does this mean? There are NO towers in Pasadena? Even though coverage shows it to be great??? Are they cingular? Is that the problem perhaps for some of us having the CINGULAR towers updated for AT&T?

I am here now in Pasadena and will be for another week.

Someone please anwser as I wonder if this is the culprit (AT&T vs CINGULAR TOWERS)

HeloCaptain - that's a bummer. But I see by your next message that you got your phone working again. Glad to hear it! Personally, I'm avoiding downloading anything directly to my phone, even though I'm not having other problems with it. Why take chances? When I see a bunch of other people report that they're downloading via wifi with no problems, then maybe I'll give it a try. Someone else can be the guinea pig.

Updated mine it went flawlessly. Took about 20 minutes to download due to the slowness of my internet connection, only 1.5 mbps download speed. The backup took a few minutes and it installed and worked great. No difference in 3G signal. I was already using the signal meter and it was between -91 to -99 in my house that is the same. My download speed on 3G was between .8 to 1.4 mbps. Those numbers have not changed. Contacts may load a little quicker, but hard to tell. Maybe this is just a big fix for those that have issues, and for the rest of us who don't it does nothing.
