There are 6 to 8 different iPhone 3G Models

I was over at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 and I noticed that there are several different part numbers for the iPhone.

There should be at least 3 different part numbers (8GB Black, 16GB Black and 16GB White). But why are there so many in under the US and Canada? All the other countries have 3, except for the US and Canada?

Any suggestions? Which one is the latest one?

Two white iPhones, both are MB499LL/A and purchased in Littleton Colorado.

No problems on either.

None of the reported cracks. 3G is all good with full bars. Never dropped a call.

White 3G ordered 1 week after release picked up at AT&T store 4 days later.
MB705LL trouble free, no 3rd party apps.

I think you are incorrect since I am able to go to settings > general > about directly on my iphone and it says model MB499LL .

Good point. I can still tell that you bought your 16 gig White iPhone at an Apple store, though, so that much is true.

You must be talking about the 1st generation iphone since you cannot buy them at the Apple online store.
