HANDBRAKE H.264 PROBLEM SOLVED!! DOWNLOAD HERE!!!

This is a version of Handbrake that enables the "Baseline" profile instead of the "Main" profile. That was the whole problem with the videos not being able to transfer to the iPod when using the H.264 codec. Now, I tried it & it works great!

yeah Glor, I think that's a good if you're going to sometimes view them on a tv.

Hey, with handrake I just noticed that on the lower right side, you can change the language from English 5ch to English 2ch. Since the ipod is just going to be in stereo would it make sense to choose 2ch? I mean, when watching a movie that's only in dolby surround on a regular tv, then the dialog and stuff gets really quiet because there's no center channel, so I'm wondering if this would make for a better listening experience on the ipod. Anybody think that sounds right?

iDaze, thanks allot! Do you mind if I give the download link to my friend Adam? He runs a podcast called "Maccast". He will probably talk about it on his next podcast & put the link on his web site for people to download. Thanks again!

HandBrake is just amazing. I really nearly have tried them all:

Mac-Software:
- FourtyTwo (which by the way does not generate h.264, not for me anyway). I am not able to crop. Can handle VIDEO_TS folder. First generate an avi (?!? why ?!?) then starts coding. Slow.

- Compress from Final Cut: the h.264 video will not load onto the 5G iPod and is very slow. The MPEG-4 video coding is extremely fast, but if you compare it to h.264 you see the difference. Great functionality. Can not handle a VIDEO_TS folder.

- Toast 7: does the h.264 coding pretty fast (you have to choose baseline, by the way), but the result is really bad compare to the others. Can handle VIDEO_TS folder.

- Quicktime Pro 7: sloooooow, but good results. Can not handle VIDEO_TS folder.

- HandBrake: In my opinion the Best coder there is. It is fast, can handle VIDEO_TS folder. Very good results (I cannot tell the difference in quality between 1-pass and 2-pass coding, except the 2-pass coding takes very long.) h.264 coding, crop-function, and its free.

Windows-Software:
- Nero Recoder: Fast, NO h.264.

- PQDVD: Which I bought. afterwards I realized it has a problem with the audio (there are glitches, crackling noises throughout the video). You need a DVD-Player installed. Very fast. NO h.264!

Are you using the AVC (H.264) encoder setting?

First generate an avi (?!? why ?!?) then starts coding.

Transcoding requires VOB files be stripped to Audio and video component streams which are then integrated as an intermediate file with one video and one or more audio tracks. This intermediate file is then converted to final format using QuickTime routines (which is probably why it is slower than HandBrake which uses non-QT routines). An .avi intermediate file is just one of the possibilities that offers a reasonable balance of quality-to-file size and compatibility.
