I was just half way through writing an email on my iPhone 3G when it suddenly the screen flashed white and i have tried restoring multiple times and going into DFU mode and restoring, still no luck, always the white screen. Is my only option to return this to an apple store for a replacement? and if so, do you think i will need to book an appointment or anything? Thanks.
My iPhone experience was going great until now. I am still able to recive calls and i'm able to awnser them if i tap in the right place, but the screen is still white, and i can hear the unlock sound. Very weird. thanks any way.
i just took apart my 1st gen iphone (not an easy task, ended up bending the rear panel a bit).
just decided that since it wasn't under warranty anyway, i might as well have a crack at it. got it opened, noticed that the touch screen connection was a touch loose. i disconnected the whole Logic Board and Battery from the case and re-seated the entire thing. so far, it seems to be holding up. i've shaken it pretty vigorously and no white screen.
i just need to bend the back panel back a bit (or buy a new one...expensive) and see how long it will last before it might screw up again...but so far, so good.
Same problem here, screen went white in the middle of writing a text. I made an appointment with an Apple store for them to figure this out for this tomorrow. I'll update you when I get back from the appointment.
OMG this happened to me today. What is the deal? I can't get anything but a white screen. when I do a hard reset, it still comes back white. I can call my phone and it rings, but that's it.
I can connect to my PC but still the screen is white
Well i wandered back to the Carphone warehouse (where i picked mine up originally, i'm sure the apple store would of done the same) and they replaced it, no questions asked. i lost my invisible shield, but i now have a completely clean new working iPhone.
I dont expect apple to tell us why it happens, but atleast tell us they know about the problem and there working on it, or there looking into it at the moment.
I had to reschedule my appointment at the Genius Bar because I got there late but once I was able to have somebody look at the phone they ended up switching it out for a new one. (Very impressed by that, I was expecting I would have to send my phone somewhere to get looked at.)
The only problem I did have was the white screen would only happen randomly and of course it didn't happen when I was at the Apple Store. Good thing I took a video of the iPhone going to the white screen earlier in the day on my girlfriends phone. Once the Genius Bar tech saw that he grabbed another phone from the back and that was it.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar, bring your receipt, and make sure you're not late. Good Luck.
Just to add to the list. got my iphone 2 days ago. everything ok until after finishing a call this morning. Then white screen. calls can come in an even sms. seems to be just the screen, wont reset after following instructions. If this is happening so often, why isn't the press covering it and Apple issuing some statement? if not a solution.
I am guessing the reason is a hardware problem affecting a very small number of phones without a solution. Apple are aware hence they swap it without questions asked. In their eyes the less said the better.
Same thing happened to me and guess when? My flight had just landed at Cincinnati airport. A friend whose phone could only make calls but not receive was coming to pick me up. That is when my iphone died showing me a white screen. Worst part, I could not call him even from a public phone because his phone could not receive calls. So there he was, calling me and there I was stranded at the airport until I realized that the white screen did not stop me from taking calls. After some guess work to locate the slider to unlock the phone, I was able to talk to him but it was an awful experience. As soon as I got back home, I checked on youtube for a solution to this problem and found it. YOU HAVE TO PRESS THE LOCK AND HOME BUTTONS TOGETHER FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES THE SCREEN TO GO BLACK. It will be like rebooting your PC after blue screen of death appears. It may not work in all cases but it did, in my case. I hope that I never see the white screen again.
hey just wondering what kind of guarantee etc did you have with the Carphone Warehouse? I just rang them and they told me they cant do anything about it and to get in touch with apple. i just cant be bothered to go without a phone for weeks.
And the likelihood of apple admitting they have a fault is pretty slim. They will just leave the testing to us users as always.
THANK YOU! WHEN MY SCREEN SUDDENLY WENT ON MY IPHONE I WAS PANICKED. I COULDN'T GET A HOLD OF APPLE BECAUSE I HAD NO PHONE! I READ YOUR COMMENT ABOUT HOLDING THE ON BUTTON AND THE HOME BUTTON AND THE FOR AS LONG AS IT TAKES TO GET THE SCREEN TO WORK AND VOILA! IT CAME ON.
I too tried pressing the home and lock buttons together until the screen turned off and the apple appeared on the screen. Thanks for your tip, everything is back to normal! 🙂
Just take it back to Apple. I've tried everything and nothing worked. Restore, reset, reboot, nothing! And I only had it for 3 days! Just take it back!
I had the same problem with my phone 1 month after I bought it. Here is the solution that helped me get my phone back up and running.
1. hold down the home key & the up volume button.
2. while holding those two buttons hold down the lock button
3. after about 6 seconds the screen will go black and you will see the apple logo.
