iPhone 3G White screen

I was just half way through writing an email on my iPhone 3G when it suddenly the screen flashed white and i have tried restoring multiple times and going into DFU mode and restoring, still no luck, always the white screen. Is my only option to return this to an apple store for a replacement? and if so, do you think i will need to book an appointment or anything? Thanks.
My iPhone experience was going great until now. I am still able to recive calls and i'm able to awnser them if i tap in the right place, but the screen is still white, and i can hear the unlock sound. Very weird. thanks any way.

I have a brand new iPhone 3GS and last night was telling my friend whom I gave my iPhone 3G to how reliable it was that it did not need rebooting. Spoke too soon. Woke up to find a White Screen Of Death (didn't even know if existed as a problem on iPhones).

I used AON07's suggestions, which are:

1. hold down the home key & the up volume button.
2. while holding those two buttons hold down the lock button
3. after about 6 seconds the screen will go black and you will see the apple logo.

I do see the Apple logo appear but nothing else. It is now a nice Black on Black apple ad with a white Apple logo. Better than the White Screen of Death but still unusable. Will try again.

No luck. Thanks for the tip, it does unlock the white screen but didn't get the phone running.

Regards

Imran

PS - I looked around and found a very slightly different set of instructions:

- First, press and hold the HOME button.
- Second, press and hold the UP volume button as well.
- Third, with those still held, press and hold the SLEEP button.

I did this and it immediately jumped from the Apple logo to the passcode screen and seems to be working now. Will keep an eye on it to see if it happens again.

your phone should reboot as normal.

Just got the white screen of death! 24 hours after I downloaded the latest iphone upgrade, I awoke this morning to a completely white screen. I tried to sync it in ITunes & it said the sync was complete but the screen stayed completely white. I tried to restore it to factory settings but got an error message that said it could not be restored. Just now after repeatedly pressing the power/sleep buttons at the same time was I able to get the Apple logo & phone appears to be working fine. This 3G phone is two months old. This should NOT be happening. Thank God it was a weekend & I wasn't missing any calls or emails. WHAT IS GOING ON???

Hey guys...not sure if you all have solved your iPhone issues.

My understanding is that the white screen is caused by a loose connection between your iPhone screen and the other hardware of the iPhone. The white screen usually appears after the phone has been dropped, or merely been jostled a bit and the connection comes loose. There isn't anything "wrong" with the phone, persay, and that should be evident if you plug it into your computer as you can back it up etc. Apple has consistently swapped them out no questions asked -- I'm sure they then turn around and re-sell the ones swapped as refurbished...

The suggestions above to fix it does sometimes work (not always)...There are a few other suggestions out there via google/you-tube, but if you can get in to see a Mac Genius they'll proly swap it out ASAP as the hardware is fine and its just an internal connection that gets loose. Hope this helps...

You can fix the white screen by rebooting your iPhone. To do this, hold down the power button (top right side of phone) and the menu button (bottom middle) simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds. It will show the apple on the screen when the reboot has started. After the reboot, all applications, settings, memory, etc will still be as they were prior to the reboot. Good luck 🙂
