Error 4280 when trying to burn a CD...but not all the time

Hi,

I hope someone can help me.

I have never had issues before but in the last few days it has been HORRIBLE.

I have brand new CDs to burn to and sometimes I get an error to insert a blank disc(how can it not be it is brand new)

Other times I try to burn a disc and get:

"the attempt to burn a disc failed an unknown error occured(4280)

I have deauthorized and reauthorized my PC. Some of the songs I am burning are ones I loaded from a CD that I had burned one before with NO problems.

I have wasted at least 10 CDs in the last few days trying to get this to work.

I have checked EVERYWHERE for a list of Error Code numbers but I can find it anywhere.

It will check playlist then start to "write" a song and it stops.

ANY help would be appreciated I am seriously losing my mind!!

I made sure I had the latest version of ITunes and upgraded last night to be sure and I am the admin on my PC and I am the only one that uses it.

I was able to burn one this AM and then the next one the errors happened again.

I have seen a lot of fixes that ask if my drive is

Sony CD-RW/DVD CRX830E model drive

It is not when I did the diagnostic to figure out my drive I get this(and I have tried burning as low as 4X

The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4280(0x000010b8). It happened on drive F: PHILIPS CDD4851 CD-R/RW on CDR media at speed 8X.

Is there ANYONE that can help or at least point me in the correct direction

Thank you

Compaq, Windows XP

Seems I'm having the same problem... I cannot burn music from a playlist, which I have purchased from iTunes, however I can burn old music (not purchased, ripped from CD's or downloaded from Limewire) from my library... This also seemed to happen when I downloaded 8.0... Worked well for a little while, now I can't purchase music and burn it!!! ANYONE!?! HELP!?!?!

Don't let them convince you it has anything to do with the brand of your blanks. That is the most absurd thing i've ever heard. As near as I can tell, the bug randomly prevents burning most of the time, but occasionally you will be able to punch one through. This is very frustrating. I am currently on the phone w/ Apple Tech support, about to speak to the "product specialist" for iTunes. Who will maddeningly tell me to repeat all the steps i've been repeating over and over for the past four hours. And then tell me he has no idea how to fix the problem. Which i already know. Everyone should call them though, to make sure they are aware of the compatibility issue, and might come up with a fix to release w/ the next update...

ok guys, i've gotten an answer of sorts from the iTunes tech specialist, though it isn't good news. Apparently there is a driver that comes with windows, the AFS driver, which is, as near as the folks at apple can tell, useless. However, its presence on the registry MOVES the gearsoft driver that iTunes uses to burn cds where iTunes can't find it, thus making it mostly impossible to burn cds. He said they've gotten TONS of calls about this, and only in the past day or so have they figured out what the problem is. Unfortunately he wasn't able to walk me through a fix. His suggestion was emailing microsoft and asking them for instructions on removing this driver from my computer.
