Phone book via bluetooth

This Forum stuff is new to me, so not sure i'm doing this correctly. I have just bought a 3G i-phone. When i bluetooth it to my car (Audi A6) the phone works fine (handsfree etc) but i cannot access my phone book via the car system. Is this a car problem, phone problem, or a me problem? Help please!

Dell Vostro, none

I have just had delivered a new audi A4 with the bloothtooth MMI thingy.

I'm having the same trouble with the addressbook. I can pair and use the phone but no phonebook. I have searched the net for answers and there seems to be conflicting reports here.

Some say it works and others say it doesnt.

For those that say it works, can you confirm what version you are on as I now wonder if the new version has something to do with this problem ?

Thanks

anyone any ideas before i take the ** thing back

Take the car back, its defective. 😉

Seems all (or most) the German cars tend to have bluetooth issues.

The Bluetooth works with lots of cars and lots of Personal Navigation Devices (Garmin/TomTom), but there are many reports of problems with BMW, Audi, and some
VW models.

Read about the fix for late model Audi's above.

Phone book works for my Garmin just fine.

Information I picked up:

It seems there are several Bluetooth services that the iPhone could use, but Apple has not enabled them. When I added my iPhone to the devices in the BT Control Panel, it said that the following Device Services were there: Handsfree Gateway, Phonebook, Headset Gateway, and IrMC Sync. But when I tried to configure the devices, it said that No services were available. I guess Apple could enable these in the future through a software update. The profiles supported are "Headset" and "Handsfree." The headset profile supports answer/hang up, redial, and swap call as well as the audio. Handsfree also supports dial, phone book transfer, signal level, battery level, carrier status, and a couple of similar things. This is used with car speakerphone kits and other such devices. The iPhone tells the car all that info and sends the phonebook into the car every time it connects.
