Phone book via bluetooth

This Forum stuff is new to me, so not sure i'm doing this correctly. I have just bought a 3G i-phone. When i bluetooth it to my car (Audi A6) the phone works fine (handsfree etc) but i cannot access my phone book via the car system. Is this a car problem, phone problem, or a me problem? Help please!

Hi - same problem. iPhone 3G works fine with Mini (I would guess same software as BMW given it's the same company) so I can see all my contacts, but not with the Audi. I have a feeling my wife's first generation iPhone did allow her to access contacts in the Audi, but will need to check.
Has anyone spoken with Audi or had a recent service / software upgrade? I can't imagine it's rocket science (especially if BMW have figured it out!).

As others have posted, it seems that the iPhone (both original and 3G models) only officially supports the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) and Headset Profile (HSP) hence the phonebook and other problems.

However, I also had a first generation iPhone and it worked perfectly with my 2007 A6 Allroad ... full access to phonebook, recent calls, missed calls ... the whole nine yards.

I have the same problem as you with the 'new and improved' iPhone 3G. I can pair from the phone to the car and get a very basic functionality (i.e. no phonebook or call register). If I recall correctly, you need to initiate the pairing the other way round ... i.e. starting from the car. When successful the phonebook is copied as part of the initial pairing. I can't get this part to work for me as the iphone is invisible to the Audi even though the iphone says it is 'discoverable'.

Applecare will just give you the standard line about not being able guarantee to support every phone out there.

If the 3G is working with other car makes (BMW and the like ...) then it might be an Audi problem. They seem to have created a workaround for the original iPhone's shortcomings so let's hope the can do it again for the 3G

If it doesn't upload the Phone Book try this by resetting Audi MMI Phone settings back to zero:

1) Unpair Audi in Bluetooth setting on iPhone then turn off Blue tooth on the iPhone
2) Go to Phone on the Audi
3) Select Setup button on the Audi
4) Go to Phone Settings
5) Select Default - confirm yes (this erases all Bluetooth connections and Phone books on Audi)
6) Turn on iPhone Blue tooth
7) go to Bluetooth set up on Audi
8) Enter Pin code on iPhone as shown on Audi (usually 1234) then hit connect on iPhone
9) you should see Bluetooth icon on Audi display in a few moments
10) Go to Audi Phone button, select Memory
11) Wait until Phone Book selection is highlighted - this may take a few minutes
