Video Filter Not Working

So I finally got Final Cut Express, and had a little bit of experience using it back in college. But now I'm having issues. I can't get any of the video filters to work, the filter I'm most concerned with is the Color Corrector. I really wanted to use this tool for a film I'm putting together. But no matter how I try to add this filter and others to my film, they don't take affect. I've seen tutorials all over the place that show the effects in real time in the viewer as the changes were made... I'm not getting that, **** I'm not even getting the effects to work at all???? Is it a settings thing? Or maybe a video file type?

Any suggestions would be wildly appreciated.

Did you ever get this issue resolved?

I'm having similar issues where suddenly within a project that I'd been working on, I could no longer add any filters to either video clips or .jpg photo clips in the project.

I've added filters a million times to clips so I know how the process works - but now none of the filters work anymore.

The filters won't work now going back to old projects or new ones. It's like somehow the 'plug got pulled' on my ability to add filters.

I've deleted preferences and have re-installed FCE. Still, no filters work.

Can anyone shed some light on this - especially since the filters won't work on photos in the project either.

Very strange.
