To Engrave or Not To Engrave, That is the Question

I am getting a 30G and thinking about having it engraved. My major concerns about engraving are the following:
1. Is it "safe" to do so? (I mean, someone has to open the box and take out the ipod, and then shoot a laster bean on it...or is it all done by a machine?)
2. If something goes wrong (knock on the wood) with my new ipod and I have to return it for a replacement, would it be OK if the ipod has been engraved(ie "personalized")?

What are other pros and cons about engraving ipod?
p.s. I don't have any plan to resell it in the future.

I think i remember that post.

Did it contain anyone recommending possible engravings? Some of the context of the engravings could have been against T&C.

I got mine engraved. I don't plan on reselling it. You only live once. If you want it engraved, I wouldn't hesitate.

My first ipod had an engraving that i got off of the website...it looked great and i never had any problems with it. Looks great too, great way to tell it apart from all your friends pods.

They usually send you a box to send the defective items in, but if the iPod itself is working fine, but you've changed your mind, you have to pay for your own shipping.

and besides, u get a service plan, so of course apple can repair it once the battery goes phfttt

If you order the ipod from apples site it automatically comes with the option for free engraving. I engraved my name on mine, just as a little bit of a deterrent for someone to steal it.
