"Key and coin SCRATCH test" video clip!!!

For anyone wondering or worried about your iPod scratching, I made a video that shows off the strength of the Invisible Shield protective film that I bought for my 60GB 5G iPod.

The video contains close ups, key scratching, and a ziploc bag full of keys and coins to "simulate" an iPod inside your pocket. In the end, my iPod remained scratch-free.

Here's the video:

Don't sue Apple if you want a scratch-free iPod... just buy a good case 🙂

So what do you think?

Hi Tom,
Thanks 🙂 Right before the "ZipLoc test" I did some close ups of the iPod in "normal" light. The surface of the film is actually smooth to the touch but looks bumpy when light is reflected on the iPod at an angle.

I don't notice it at all when watching video or looking at the iPod straight on. Here's a picture of my iPod with the invisible shield before I put the film on the click wheel:

Hey richard

thanks alot for the video and the ruthless self tests you did on the 2 ipods. I really winced alot during them :-O

But you proved a great point dont sue.... "be smart and get a good case!"

Oh and you had my fav movie playing "office space" even greater reson to watch the self tests. Question about the shield used. Is it fairly safe applying it with the water? And what meticulouos do you get applying the film to the ipod?

Thanks
GFF

Hi GFF,
Hardly any water touched my iPod. Basically I got the invisible shield film wet and lightly squeegee'd most of the water off with my finger. Although the shield was still a little wet, it wasn't enough to do any damage to my iPod. The instructions also says not to turn the iPod on until 24 hours later, probably to prevent damage just in case some water does get in.

WOW. I think I have watched that clip 20 times now. Good job. Got a couple of questions. I'm hoping you or someone else can answer them.

#1. I have put scratch guards on my palm and phone but they dont bend really. Does this one bend around the edges? How well does it cover around the sharp edge on the front?

#2 Does the guard cover the wheel? How responsive is the wheel with the guard on it?

Thanks again for the video.

Thanks for the clip. I've got the Invisible Shield installed on mine as well, and it looks great. The first time I tried to apply it I had some problems, but they sent me another one (for free) which went on perfectly. I had that puppy soaking wet, with no problems. I turned my iPod on and was using it within a few hours, although it looked like a bubble was starting to develop (possibly due to the iPod generating heat) but after it set overnight it smoothed out and sealed beautifully.

Out of curiosity, it looked in your video as if the key test was leaving some very small scratches. Are they still visible, or was it my imagination?

Hi J. Charles Holt1,
Nope, the key didn't leave any scratches. It was only the light reflecting on the skin oil from my hand that the key wiped off the iPod. I noticed the same thing after the ziploc test and used my thumb to wipe off the oil.

Here's some close-up pictures of my iPod that I just took:
